The much-awaited Mahindra Thar 5-door will launch on August 15, 2024, revealed the carmaker. We see Mahindra plan huge events on Indian Independence Day each year. Hence, we are not surprised that the Indian auto giant has chosen this year’s Independence Day to launch the most awaited SUV in India. Mahindra has been testing the 5-door Thar for months now. In fact, we have reported the test mules in varied conditions on multiple occasions. Mahindra Thar 5-Door Launch Date Revealed
We have seen the SUV in camouflage on multiple occasions. Externally, minimal changes are discernible. Towards the front, prominent features include round headlamps, a sizable grille, a rugged bumper equipped with fog lamps, an almost vertical front windshield, turn indicators positioned at the extremities of the bonnet, and bonnet clamps. On the sides, noticeable elements consist of large alloy wheels, side steps facilitating easier entry and exit, a boxy silhouette, and pronounced wheel arches. The elongated wheelbase, designed to accommodate a more spacious boot and cabin, becomes evident from this perspective. Towards the rear, notable features include LED taillamps, a robust bumper featuring reflector lights, and a spare wheel affixed to the bootlid.

The upcoming Thar will share its platform with the Scorpio N and will also offer similar powertrain options. This means it could be equipped with either a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine or a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine. Both manual and automatic transmissions will be available for these engines. Additionally, it will feature advanced off-roading technology to navigate various challenging terrains. Presently, the 3-door Thar is priced between Rs 11.25 lakh and Rs 17.60 lakh, ex-showroom. It’s anticipated that the 5-door variant will be priced considerably higher than these.

The testing phase of the 5-door Mahindra Thar has been ongoing for a considerable period. It has been observed in diverse locations, including the demanding terrains of the Himalayas, indicating thorough testing by the Indian automaker. Furthermore, the extended wheelbase will result in a more spacious cabin, accommodating a larger boot compartment, which addresses a notable limitation in the current 3-door model.
