Tata has confirmed that the Land Rover SUVs will start rolling out from its India plant from Early 2011. Below is the official statement from Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar & Land Rover:
“We are going to start an assembly plant for Land Rover vehicles in India by early next year. We are setting up an assembly unit in China and we are in discussion with the JV partners.”
The lad rover will be only assembled in India as a CKD, this will mean a significant drop in the price compared to the current prices which attract heavy taxes because of imported CBU. This will help boost the Indian sales of JLR and will also boost economy to some extent. This is a significant move as the globally acknowledged international brand will get some more presence in India in the growing economic scenario. JLR has been on a positive financial ladder in the current financial year 2010-11 with a profit figure of approx. Rs. 1700 Crore.
