Firstly, we take a look at the details of a kick start mechanism. As the rider kicks the lever, the gear inside the component meshes and pushes the crankshaft of the engine. As a result, the pistons start moving and the fuel starts getting delivered inside the cylinder. Hence, the bike starts.

On the other hand, the principle of self start is not too different either. The only difference is that instead of a physical level, there is a starter motor which is electrically operated.
