The official debut is slated for December 19, 2024, while the price announcement could take place at the Bharat Auto Expo in January
Kia Syros will be the next sub-4m SUV in the Indian market from the Korean auto giant. Note that the Syros will be positioned between the Sonet and Seltos. Kia has been the fastest carmaker in the country to reach 1 million (10 lakh) sales just within 59 months of operations. At the moment, it wants to capitalize on the growing trend of SUVs in India. However, the Syros will offer a different proposition than the Sonet or Seltos in terms of aesthetics, convenience and practicality. For now, let us take a look at what we know so far.
Kia Syros – Exterior
The teaser images certainly shed some light on the butch exterior layout. At the front, we are able to see vertical headlamps with LED DRLs and a sporty lower bumper section. Also, the skid plate makes the compact SUV look imposing and adventurous. Thereafter, we get to witness the new-age dual-tone alloy wheels which resemble those on the new EVs in the international markets. However, the biggest talking point is the side profile which reminds me of the Skoda Yeti. It gets an upright stance and side profile with rugged roof rails, chunky and squarish wheel arches with rugged cladding and flush-fitting door handles. At the rear, it gets L-shaped LED taillamps. More details will emerge tomorrow.
Kia Syros – Interior
There are also glimpses of the cabin of the Kia Syros in this teaser. It is clear that we will experience a modern cabin with the latest tech and convenience amenities. The top highlights include a 360-degree camera, ADAS, lounge-like rear seating, a push button start/stop function on the centre console, USB charging slots,ย wireless charging,ย ambient lighting, a large free-standing touchscreen infotainment display, panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, front seat ventilation, air purifier, unique steering with multimedia controls including Terrain Mode, and audio settings.
Specs
Since it will be priced around the Sonet, we expect it to share the powertrains as well. However, there are reports which suggest that it won’t get the entry-level 1.2-litre petrol mill but instead, the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine which is good for 120 hp and 172 Nm of peak power and torque in the Sonet. This engine will pair with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. In addition, there could also be a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel with 115 hp and 250 Nm. This mill could use the 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The expected prices are between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 16 lakh, ex-showroom.
