It is interesting to see how well Kia has packaged the entry-level variant of the new Kia Syros
In this post, we are taking a look at the details of the Kia Syros HTK base model. Syros is the newest product from the Korean auto giant in our market. It sits right in the middle of two of the most successful Kia cars in India – Sonet and Seltos. To continue its domination on the sales charts, Kia has introduced the Syros as an alternative to the Sonet or Seltos for all those who want premium amenities in a relatively compact SUV. That is the basis for this SUV. Generally, carmakers offer entry-level trims to woo new customers. Let us take a look at the details of what the HTK trim comes with.
Kia Syros HTK Base Model – Price
The main attraction is the price tag of Rs 9 lakh, ex-showroom. That is higher than the Sonet and lower than the Seltos. This is quite impressive and is definitely something potential buyers will appreciate. Note that the base trim is only available with a sole turbo petrol mill and manual transmission. The first diesel trim starts with HTK (O) which has a price tag of Rs 11 lakh, ex-showroom. Overall, the Syros ranges from Rs 9 lakh to Rs 17.80 lakh, ex-showroom.

Kia Syros HTK Base Model – Exterior Styling
We often see that every car’s base model always has tons of elements which give away its identity. It is understandable that car companies wish to cut costs without compromising too much in terms of appearance. Hence, we see some dead giveaway components which set the different variants apart. The Kia Syros HTK base model gets a projector and halogen headlamp combination along with an integrated turn indicator, and a rugged skid plate section at the front underneath the matte black bumper. The edge of the bonnet looks unique and lends it a distinct appeal. Also, LED DRLs are not available in this base trim.
On the sides, the boxy silhouette of the vehicle becomes apparent. I like the chunky and muscular wheel arches with black claddings which encapsulate stylish 15-inch wheels with wheel covers. Apart from that, the silver side body skirtings on the door panels offer it an adventurous appearance. The turn indicator on the front fenders is specific to this base trim. Then we have the black A and C-pillars with a quarter glass which gives it that floating roof effect. Completing the exterior profile is the tail end which consists of a shark fin antenna, C-pillar-mounted LED taillamps, an upright boot door, taillamps on the extreme edges of the bumper and a skid plate under the rear bumper. Overall, the Kia Syros is certainly a unique proposition when it comes to the exterior.
Kia Syros HTK Base Model – Interior and Features
When you enter the cabin of the Kia Syros, you will experience a sophisticated layout. This is something which has been inspired by the latest Kia cars from its global portfolio. The main highlights include the two-spoke rectangular steering wheel with multimedia and other in-car controls, tilt steering adjustment, dual-display – infotainment system and driver’s instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 6 airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, physical buttons for HVAC and audio system, audio system, 2 type-C ports, front parking sensors, central armrest with storage, manual IRVM, sunglass holder, cabin lighting, rear AC vents and USB charging ports, fixed rear headrests, ISOFIX child seat mounts and more. Despite being the base model, there is no shortage of amenities on offer.
Specs
In terms of specifications, the Kia Syros borrows the powertrains with the Sonet (save for the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine). Based on the reinforced K1 platform, the Syros is available with two engine options – a 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel mill which output 120 PS / 172 Nm and 116 PS / 250 Nm of maximum power and torque, respectively.ย However, the base trim only gets the petrol mill with a 6-speed manual transmission. Apart from that, the higher petrol variants also get the option of a 7-speed DCT automatic. Similarly, one can choose between a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission with the diesel mill.

My View
I must admit, Kia has equipped its Syros compact SUV with tons of modern-day functionalities and technologies even in the base trim. I feel this will set a new benchmark on how to make entry-level models more attractive to the buyers. It remains to be seen how well the consumers embrace the premium compact SUV.
