Kia’s first product for India, the SP2i SUV is expected to launch in India ahead of the festive season this year with a price bracket of INR 9-15 lakhs.
Kia Motors India has recently commenced the trial production of its first product in India, the SP2i SUV at its manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. The said vehicle, under heavy camouflage, was showcased to the media at the inaugural event. Though the exact details regarding the design and other aspects of the vehicle will be revealed closer to the date, going by what we saw of the vehicle, we can say for sure that the same is quite clearly larger than its main competitor Hyundai Creta.
The Kia SP2i will be based on the same platform as that of the Hyundai Creta. In fact, it will use the same engine line-up as that of the later as well, along with sharing the same transmission options. For those who do not know, Kia is a South Korean automobile manufacturer which is owned by Hyundai.

The SP2i SUV was first showcased in India as a concept during the Auto Expo last year. When launched, we expect the same to cost somewhere in-between the price range of INR 9 lakh to INR 15 lakh (ex-showroom). In addition to the Hyundai Creta, this SUV will also compete against the likes of Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur and even with the base variants of the recently launched Tata Harrier.
While the recently launched Nissan Kicks projects itself as a vehicle that offers a whole array of features, the SP2i SUV will stand as the most premium alternative in the segment that also offers a sporty exterior design. Globally, Kia cars are known to offer an up-market interior along with featuring an attractive exterior design.
