Kia is finally going to launch the Sonet subcompact SUV this September, following the unveiling in August. It will be Kia’s third offering for India and the 6th subcompact SUV of the segment. The teasers have been put out and its world premiere is scheduled for 7th of August.
Hyundai being Kia’s sister brand, both of their cars share a lot of things. In the case with Kia Sonet, it also shares many things with Hyundai Venue but also has some differences. The biggest common point is that both of them use the same platform. Here we compare both of them to check the differences and similarities.
Kia Sonet Vs Hyundai Venue – Design And Appearance
As for the Sonet, it gets a completely different styling when compared to Venue. The latter is a boxy-SUV, living on the conventional SUV styling. It gets sharper creases, chunky bumpers and an upright stance. Sonet also gets an upright stance but in a modern avatar. It gets a slightly rounded appearance, protruding wheel arches and somewhat a fusion theme.
Other highlights that we see on the Kia Sonet include its signature Tiger Nose grille, sharp headlamp design and stylish alloy wheels. As for the Venue, it shows off Hyundai’s latest design language with the huge cascading grille, dual-tone alloy wheels and split headlamp design.

The engine specifications of both of them will be the same. Sonet will borrow its entire set of engines and transmission options from the Venue. The power figures might be a bit different for both of them.

Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet will use Seltos’s 1.5 Litre four-cylinder diesel engine. The current 1.4 Litre engine on Venue will be discontinued due to BS6 regulations. The power figures are unknown but their new diesel motor will offer around 100 PS and 230 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed MT as standard.

Sonet will also use Venue’s 1.0 three-cylinder turbo petrol motor. The engine produces 115 PS and 172 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed MT and a 7-speed DCT. Kia and Hyundai both have worked towards developing India;s first clutchless manual iMT gearbox which will come paired with a turbo petrol motor.

Both the SUVs are built on the same platform, using the almost same components as well. The dimensions might be slightly different because of the appearance but overall, the cabin should also offer same comfort level and spaciousness.

Hyundai Venue comes with features such as:

The prices of Hyundai Venue start off at Rs 6.55 Lakhs up to Rs 10.89 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). In comparison, Kia is expected to start its introductory prices at Rs 6.5 Lakhs up to Rs 11.50 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Sonet might be the costliest SUV in its segment.
