The Kia Sonet has gained immense popularity in the sub-4-meter compact SUV segment, where it faces tough competition from rivals like the Hyundai Venue and Maruti Brezza. It stands out as one of the most feature-rich SUVs in its class, with the highest trim even featuring a premium Bose speaker system. While some drivers are content with factory-installed speakers, others opt to enhance their audio experience with aftermarket units. Of course, the market offers a wide range of options for such audio upgrades.

Kia Sonet with Audio Upgrade Worth Rs 29 Lakh
One Kia Sonet owner and audiophile, who goes by the name ‘flipflop’ on TBHP, has taken things to a new level with an audio system upgrade costing twice of the car! Instead of settling for the factory-installed Bose seven-speaker system on the high-end X-Line variant, he invested a staggering Rs 29 lakh on upgrading the setup. The Sonet X-Line variant he owns has a starting price ranging from Rs 13.89 lakh for the 1.0L turbo petrol-DCT to Rs 14.89 lakh for the 1.5L diesel-AT (both ex-showroom prices). Remarkably, the Sonet owner spent Rs 29 lakh on the audio upgrade. According to flipflop, his car is his sanctuary, and the quality of music within it takes precedence, regardless of the vehicle’s cost.
The enhancements to the Kia Sonet’s music system involved installing top-tier components, including Focal Utopia M speakers, Ground Zero Reference amplifiers, Focal Beriliyum tweeters, and more. While the precise cost and complete list of upgrades aren’t specified, these modifications were carried out at Speedfreaks in Chennai. The owner had a clear preference for a Brax DSP system for his vehicle. Prior to installing the speakers and other equipment, the entire car underwent a damping process. This procedure is typically performed to reduce road noise and enhance audio performance. It was executed with precision, resulting in significantly reduced noise levels.

Importance of Damping
In fact, the car received extensive damping, consisting of six layers on the doors and various other areas. Some minor fabrication work was carried out on the door pads to accommodate mid-bass speakers. Most of the components incorporated into this car were sourced from international suppliers. Interestingly, the owner says he was never keen on upgrading the alloy wheels but an audio upgrade was highly necessary.
