Launched in August 2019, the Kia Seltos has been a runaway success, with the high demand for this compact SUV helping the South Korean carmaker establish itself in the market. The Seltos locks horn with its own sibling, Hyundai Creta, and is arguably the most premium car in its price segment, which is exactly why we’re quite surprised to have received an image showing this SUV being used as the training car by a driving school in Bangalore. If you’ve noticed, these private driving schools generally make use of budget models like the Maruti Wagon R and the Alto to train new drivers and it’s actually the first time we’re seeing a much costlier car being used by one such school.
Actually, it makes sense for these driving schools to use affordable cars like the Maruti Alto and WagonR not only because of their low retail price but also because having these cars in good shape doesn’t cost much. As the risk of damage being incurred to these vehicles increases exponentially due them going into hands of untrained drivers, the owner of the driving school stays at peace knowing the fact that he won’t have to spend too much on repairing the vehicles in case of an unfortunate incident.
On the other hand, a Kia Seltos is a much more sophisticated car than the aforementioned models and hence, keeping it in shape warrants a higher investment. No surprise, then, that these driving schools charge the learners as per the car they’re taught on. So, basically, one has to spend extra to learn driving on a Kia Seltos than what he or she would have to spend when being trained on an entry-level Maruti or even some sedan like the Dzire. That said, it’s actually helpful to learn driving on a car like the Seltos if the learner has to finally start driving a car of equal size an power.
