The Kia Seltos has already received over 32,000 bookings and Kia has said that their factory would soon be working in two shifts to prevent longer waiting period.
Kia launched the Seltos in India yesterday at a stonking starting price of Rs. 9.69 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 15.99 lakhs, ex-showroom. Kia have absolutely nailed the segment with the pricing of the Seltos and it undercuts every other SUV in the segment, even its own sibling, the Hyundai Creta. Kia has commenced the deliveries of the Seltos from today and it has a waiting period ranging between 1.5-2 months.
The Kia Seltos has already received over 32,000 bookings in just five weeks since the bookings were commenced. The company has already announced that they their factory will soon be working on two shifts to meet the overwhelming demand. Kia Motors say they are well prepared to meet the demand of the Seltos and they shouldn’t be facing a situation like MG Motors. To give you a perspective, MG Motors had to close the bookings for Hector at 28,000 and the car is already sold out for 2019, with deliveries still seeing a waiting period of 6-7 months.
One of the biggest highlights of the Kia Seltos have to be the wide number of engine-gearbox configurations its available with. The Kia Seltos comes in two basic trims levels – the Tech Line and the GT Line. The Tech Line can be had with a 1.5L petrol or diesel engine which makes 115 bhp of power. The petrol engine can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a CVT, while the 1.5-litre diesel can be paired to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor. The GT line comes with only the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT for now and its makes 140 bhp of power.
Kia has also said that they will introduce a diesel-automatic variant in the GT Line trim soon. That will take the price of the Seltos a notch higher to maybe Rs. 16.99 lakhs but it will still be strong selling. Kia has already started accepting bookings for the same as well. The Seltos also comes with 3-year/unlimited km warranty which can be extended by two years along with free road-side assistance for three years.

The Kia Seltos is great value for money and Kia have have played the price card very well indeed. This could very well be a game changer in the segment. If the Hyundai Creta has been the favorite mid-size SUV in the country, that soon might change very soon. The MG Hectora and the Tata Harrier have their reasons to worry too.
