Kia Seltos is the first car in its segment to offer four different transmissions. It also gets in three varied engine options. Let’s find out which engine receives what transmission!
Kia Seltos finally made its global debut in India. The Hyundai Creta challenger sports a neat yet dominating front fascia. Kia Motors is the first brand in India to offer three different automatic transmissions with the Seltos. A total of four transmission options including a manual gearbox can be chosen from.
The SUV receives a total of three engine options – two petrol and one diesel engine with four transmission options. A Continuously variable transmission (CVT), 6-speed torque converter AT, 7-speed DCT and 6-speed manual gearbox. This is a plus point since the buyers can choose the trims according to their will and go for either an automatic or manual transmission.
Let us break all the engine specification and transmission for you. For starters, Kia Seltos all engines are BS-VI compliance and the 6-speed manual gearbox is standard for the petrol, diesel and turbo petrol engine. Furthermore, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor will get a choice of CVT too. This motor churns out 115 bhp with 144 Nm of peak torque.

The 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine generates 115 bhp and a healthy torque of 250 Nm. A 6-speed torque converter AT gearbox comes with this engine. Lastly, Kia Seltos features a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine gets a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic transmission) and the power figure gets limited to 140 bhp and 243 Nm of peak torque.
What’s more surprising is that Kia Seltos will come in several drive mode in all its powertrain lineup. It will have a normal mode which will work fine for real-world driving, and eco mode which will focus on returning high fuel efficiency and a sport mode to simply enhance the performance of the vehicle. Drive modes simply adjust the throttle response and handle the car according to your need.
Kia Seltos is built at its Andhra Pradesh plant and is the heavily localised car from the South Korean brand. Kia Motors main focus is to enter the SUV segment and then move to premium hatchbacks and sedans.
The design of the Seltos looks aggressive and the gets a tiger nose grille upfront in chrome. It also gets LED headlights, contrasting rood with vertical LED fog lamps and LED tail lights with a chrome strip connecting the tail lights. The car sits on massive alloy wheels.
The interiors see a large touchscreen infotainment unit takes up the centre and the AC vents are located below it. The faux-brushed aluminium finish used indoor pads, steering wheel, air-con vents and the center console adds to an upmarket feel to the car. The dashboard of the car gets a black colour scheme.

Some prominent features like UVO connected car technology that comes with the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. It hosts navigation, security, comfort, infotainment and other features too. Connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will also come.
It also gets front ventilated seats, powered driver-adjustable seat, ambient lighting, 360-degree camera, window curtain, push-button start, heads-up display, cruise control and others to name a few.
Safety Features onboard includes ABS with EBD, Six Airbags, Hill Assist Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Traction Control, Blind Spot Monitoring System are some of it which will be seen once the SUV gets launched.
Once launched Kia Seltos will compete against the likes of Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta and MG Hector. The prices are yet not announced but we expect it to be priced between Rs 11 lakh – 17 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
