The Clavis will be the most affordable product in Kia’s India portfolio as it will be positioned below the Sonet
The upcoming Kia Clavis/Syros (Tata Punch-Rival) was spotted testing yet again. Kia is planning to expand its portfolio to get access to a larger range of customers. The Kia Clavis/Syros will likely rival the players in the micro SUV space including the likes of Tata Punch, Maruti Ignis, Hyundai Exter and Citroen C3. Kia is among the best foreign carmakers in the country with 1 million (10 lakh) sales within 59 months of operation. That reflects the acceptance Indian customers have showered upon the Korean auto giant. Let us take a look at the details of this latest instance.
Kia Clavis/Syros (Tata Punch-Rival) Spied
The micro SUV was wearing a heavy black camouflage when it was spotted in Delhi-NCR. In fact, there were two units of the Clavis undergoing road tests. In the visuals, one can clearly see the vertical LED DRLs at the front which are somewhat inspired by the latest EV from Kia in the international market like the EV9. Apart from that, a broad front section makes up the fascia of the SUV. On the sides, the wheel arches are quite pronounced and there are sturdy roof rails too. At the rear, I like the vertical LED taillamp unit mounted on the sides of the rear windshield. It certainly looks like a tiny SUV with an upright stance.
Kia has made no official announcements regarding the powertrain options of the Clavis. However, we can expect it to borrow the engines of the Sonet compact SUV. Therefore, it could carry a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel with manual and automatic transmissions. In addition to that, we know that Kia always takes care of the in-cabin amenities. Therefore, the Kia Clavis/Syros will come equipped with the latest tech, convenience, connectivity and safety features to entice new customers. I shall keep an eye out for more details as the launch nears.
Our View
Kia has already been having a great time on the sales charts in the Indian market since its inception. The Seltos, Sonet and Carens have been the chief contributors to these astronomical sales figures. Going forward, Kia wants to expand its footprint even further. The Clavis will go a long way in ensuring that the brand is available to a wider range of potential buyers at a much more affordable price point. Let us see how well the customers embrace this upcoming product.
