Lack of price protection seems to have dissuaded some prospective buyers of Kia Carens who have now cancelled their bookings
Kia seems to be experiencing some booking cancellations for its Carens MPV lately. The reason for this is quite simple – no price protection for those who booked the Kia Carens at its launch price. The customers are being asked to pay the price at the time of delivery, which, Kia says, is its policy. However, with a substantial price hike between the time of booking and the delivery, it is not going down well with some of the buyers who have shared their displeasure on social media.

Kia Carens Booking Cancellations
Some people who had booked the Carens have taken to social media to express their concerns regarding the price hike by Kia. The gist of these posts is the fact that they had booked the Carens keeping their budgets in mind. Obviously, people plan their vehicles according to the amount of money they are willing to spend. However, Kia increased the prices of the Carens after it crossed 50,000 bookings. This is a general practice adopted by the carmakers where the introductory prices are increased after a certain booking threshold has been reached. But the problem lies in the fact that the customers who had booked their vehicles at introductory prices also need to pay according to the latest prices at the time of delivery.
This, as one would imagine, is a huge problem for those with strict budgets. Some of these people rightly raised complaints citing the fact that it isn’t their fault if the delivery of the vehicle took so long. They had booked the Carens at the beginning and the price protection policy has to be there. One person quantified it by recognising that a Rs 66,000 hike on a Rs 13 lakh car is uncalled for. Similarly, some other social media users have reported about canceling their bookings due to the prices going up by over Rs 1 lakh for many variants. There is around a 5-10% hike for no fault of the person. Naturally, people are going to raise their voices against this and as a result, many people have already cancelled their bookings.

People have been vocal about their perspective and reminded Kia that the Indians have been responsible for making Kia the fastest carmaker to reach 3 lakh sales in India. By cancelling the bookings, they could also reverse that process. We hope that Kia fixes this issue in its policy so that there are no more cancellations.
