Kia Carens, the new Seltos-based “RV”, will be seen rivaling Maruti Ertiga, XL6 and Mahindra Marazzo as it goes on sale next week
The local subsidiary of Kia is set to launch its fourth product in a few days’ time on February 15. Dubbed Kia Carens, the new model is underpinned by the same platform as the Seltos and even comes with the same set of engine and gearbox options. Ahead of the official launch, the new model has reached the dealerships and test drives are underway in full swing. While prices of the Seltos-based MPV will be announced on the aforementioned date, the vehicle can be booked for a token amount of Rs 25,000.

Kia Carens Variants and Features
The new offering will be sold in five variants, viz. Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus. While all the variants will be available in a seven-seater format, the top-spec Luxury Plus version will even provide the buyers with an option of a 6-seater format. The new model will be quite feature-laden as the fully loaded version will come with a long list of equipment, including ventilated front seats, 10.25-inch widescreen touch infotainment unit, air purifier, electric sunroof, leather upholstery, ambient lighting with 64 colour options, wireless smartphone charger, Kia Connect and roof-mounted aircon vents for the second and third row.
Kia Carens will also come with a host of standard safety features such as all four disc brakes, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill descent control, electronic stability program, 6 airbags, hill start assist and ABS with EBD.

Specs
Underpinned by the same platform as the Seltos, the Kia Carens will even offer the same engine options as its compact SUV sibling. These will include two petrol and a diesel unit. The base petrol motor will be a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated mill that will offer a maximum power of 115PS along with a peak torque of 144Nm. The transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a CVT. The more powerful petrol mill will be a 1.4-litre turbocharged unit offering a maximum power of 140 PS along with a peak torque of 242 Nm. The gearbox options here include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT. The diesel mill displaces 1.5-litre and produces 115 PS and 250 Nm. Transmission choices on offer include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic.
Kia Carens Launch and Price
Kia Carens will officially go on sale on February 15 while one can book the new model for a token amount of Rs 25,000. At present, there is no official word on the prices but the carmaker is expected to position the car very aggressively. This will help it take on a range of MPVs and crossovers, including the Maruti Ertiga, XL6, Mahindra Marazzo and Hyundai Alcazar. Moreover, it will even lock horns with the MG Hector Plus as well as the recently launched Mahindra XUV700. In all likelihood, the new 3-row vehicle will cost approximately Rs 12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
