Sometimes, even the VVIP convoys are not safe from unfortunate incidents on roads which highlights the importance of following traffic regulations
In the latest report, the convoy of the Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan was involved in a bit of an accident. Indian roads are among the most dangerous in the world. Part of the reason is the lack of seriousness among car drivers to follow traffic protocols. We know that VVIPs and state officials often travel in large convoys. In fact, when it comes to the Chief Minister of any state, the number of vehicles in the entourage is quite high. Let us take a look at the details of this recent instance.
Kerala CM Convoy in Multi-Car Crash
The details of this latest case stem from thetatvaindia on Instagram. The visuals capture the entire saga. CM’s convoy was en route to Thiruvananthapuram after a visit to Kottayam which is around 150 km away. The escort vehicles were travelling ahead with the CM’s Kia Carnival following them. Also, the motorcade even contained an ambulance. At this junction, a couple of two-wheelers were at a standstill. The escort vehicle decided to overtake them normally. Unfortunately, a lady on a scooty decided to take a sharp right turn all of a sudden. Since the vehicle was too close to the scooter, the driver had to apply severe braking.
While the scooty rider barely escaped, the vehicles in the convoy were not able to come to a stop timely. This led to a multi-car collision where the vehicles in the convoy rear-ended each other. In fact, even the ambulance hit the vehicle in the front. Thankfully, the car of the CM sustained minimal damage. As a result, the CM was able to escape without major injuries. The security and medical personnel rushed immediately to check on the Chief Minister. It is reported that an investigation is underway to trace the woman rider who was responsible for this incident.
My View
India is home to some of the most dangerous drivers in the world. The reason for that is simple – people, somehow refuse to follow traffic regulations and take road safety for granted. We lose lakhs of lives in road accidents each year. Most of these would’ve been easily avoided had the drivers adhered to the rules. Let us pledge to be responsible drivers and follow regulations so that our roads become safer than they currently are. Also, if you find anyone flouting the protocols and driving rashly, you should report them to the authorities so that appropriate action can be taken against them.
