Kawasaki reportedly has a working prototype of the four-cylinder 250cc motorcycle ready at the Kawasaki factory in Indonesia. It is called the Kawasaki ZX-25R.
There have been rumors of Kawasaki working on a new 250 cc motorcycle. The interesting fact is that this new 250cc motorcycle could be an inline-4 cylinder engine. Kawasaki has essentially slapped two more cylinders to the parallel twin motor of the existing Ninja 250. Reportedly, Kawasaki already has a working prototype version of this bike which has been titled the Ninja ZX-25R at the Kawasaki factory in Indonesia.
The Ninja ZX-25R reportedlu sports a race exhaust and has the characteristic sound of a big displacement inline-4 cylinder engine. There has been no official word from Kawasaki on the performance numbers yet. However, going by the current Ninja 250 which uses a 249cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine which churns out 39hp at 12,500rpm and 23.5Nm of peak torque at 10,000rpm, the new ZX-25R, with two more cylinders will produce something around 45 hp to 50 hp.
Just in case you didn’t know, this isn’t the first time that Kawasaki is using four cylinder for a small displacement 250cc motorcycle. They did the same with the Kawasaki ZXR250 back in the 90s. That ridiculous machine was capable of revving up to a jaw dropping 19,000 rpm while it produced 45hp of power, restricted by Japanese safety norms. And that was way back in the 90s.

The Kawasaki ZX-25R will be pretty well kitted too. It is expected to have bigger disc brakes which will be clamped by four piston calipers and dual-channel ABS will likely be offered as standard. For suspension duties, the ZX-25R could be using premium upside down forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. As for the features, it is expected to have LED headlamps and tail lamps, a fully digital instrument cluster and a suite of electronics as well.

The Kawasaki ZX-25R will go against the likes of the Honda CBR250RR and the Yamaha R3. While both of them produce around 40hp of power, the Kawasaki will easily out perform them with its four-cylinder engine. The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R will be unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. There has been no word of it coming to India yet, but that does not seem much far away after the launch.
