Jonty Rhodes is currently living in Goa, India, which is where he managed to spend some time with the Mahindra XUV3XO. The XUV3XO belongs to the immensely crowded compact SUV segment in India. It rivals the likes of the Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and a slew of other vehicles. Hence, to stand out from the crowd is extremely challenging. Still, Mahindra is known for offering segment-first and segment-best amenities to pamper the occupants. For now, let us see what Jonty Rhodes has to say about it.

I must mention here that this is a part of a promotional campaign by Mahindra and Jonty doesn’t actually own the compact SUV. Still, after spending some time with the vehicle, he is evidently impressed by what it has to offer. For instance, he likes the safety kit on offer along with tons of modern-day amenities like a large panoramic sunroof, impressive surround sound audio system, premium upholstery, ADAS and more. In fact, Jonty even says that he can’t wait to get his hands on it once he goes back to South Africa.
Under the hood of the Mahindra XUV3XO, you will find a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine which belts out a cool 110 hp and 200 Nm, the 1.2-litre direct injection turbo petrol mill which generates the best-in-segment 130 hp and 230 Nm and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel powertrain churning out a decent 115 hp and 300 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. There are options of choosing between either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AISIN-sourced automatic transmission with the petrol engines and a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT AutoShift gearbox with the diesel engine. The prices range from Rs 7.79 lakh and Rs 15.49 lakh, ex-showroom.

My View
Mahindra XUV3XO is among the most popular offerings in our market. It has been one of the major volume churners for Mahindra in the last few years. The Indian car marque offers all the bells and whistles to pamper the customers. What is interesting to see is how appealing Mahindra SUVs are becoming in global markets like South Africa and Australia. It remains to be seen how well the customers respond to it in these countries.
