Tug of war is often used to compare the brut power of two vehicles and we see numerous instances of such competitions online these days
In this latest tug of war event, Jeep Wrangler and Mahindra Thar go toe-to-toe. Both these are immensely capable off-roaders albeit in the opposite price segments. On one hand, the Wrangler is one of the most successful luxury off-roading machines on the planet. It finds home in the garages of some of the top celebrities in the world. The American SUV has been insanely dominant in this space around the globe for decades now. On the other hand, the Mahindra Thar is the most successful off-roader in India. It has been at the top since its inception. For now, let us see who is able to pull the other with its raw force.
Jeep Wrangler vs Mahindra Thar Tug of War
The details of this case emerge from karan_vishwakarmax on Instagram. The visuals capture an instance where the two SUVs are parked in an isolated location. They are facing opposite each other. The owners connect a thick rope to the rear ends of both vehicles. On the count of three, the two drivers accelerate hard. However, the Thar is able to pull the Wrangler. Since there are no explanations about the configurations of the two SUVs, I believe the Wrangler was in 4×2 mode as its rear tyres were spinning. It wouldn’t have happened if it were in 4×4 mode. That is also confirmed by dozens of comments deeming this tug of war as fake.
Both these are powerful SUVs but there is barely any comparison between the two on paper. The Jeep Wrangler comes with a powerful 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine generating a healthy 268 hp and 400 Nm of peak power and torque. Performing the transmission duties is an 8-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels. On the other hand, the Mahindra Thar has two engine options – a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel making 150 hp / 300 Nm and 130 hp / 300 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. One can choose between either a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission with 4×2 or 4×4 alternatives.

My View
YouTubers often adopt the method of tug of war to compare the power of two vehicles directly. However, I must mention that this is a poor method to test the performance of your car. Such activities could easily cause long-term damage to your car. Pulling the car when it is trying to accelerate in the opposite direction puts a massive strain on the engine. In fact, in many cases, I have even seen smoke coming out of the engine of cars in such situations where the owner pushes them too hard. Therefore, I would recommend our readers to never get involved in such activities.
