The Jeep Wrangler will come to India in both 3-door and 5-door variants and it will come via the CBU route just like the previous-gen Wrangler.
Ahead of its launch later this week, the new-gen Jeep Wrangler has been spotted testing in India. Unlike the previous uncamouflaged prototype models that were spotted, this test mule was instead seen wearing a camouflage. Also, the earlier ones spotted were the Sahara trim which sits just below the top-spec Rubicon trim. This one though, as we can tell from the alloy wheels, was the top-spec Wrangler Rubicon itself.
This new sighting of the Wrangler was the 3-door version but earlier we have also seen the 5-door version doing its rounds in India. Jeep will be offering the Wrangler in both the 3-door and 5-door variants. Also, just like the previous Wrangler, this new-gen Wrangler will come to the country via the CBU route as well.
The Jeep Wrangler has been re-engineered from grounds up. It continues with a ladder frame chassis but it is much lighter than before. The Wrangler has also grown in length which has allowed for more space on the interiors as well. It comes with improved off-road credentials too and in that context, gets a entire array of off-road hardware. The 2020 Jeep Wrangler comes with improved approach and departure angles, 277mm of ground clearance, electric front- and rear-axle locks, a limited-slip differential and up to 30 inches of water fording ability.
In terms of styling, the Wrangler is readily identifiable as to what it is. It retains every bit of its character which are only further accentuated by the modern touches like the slightly tweaked seven-slat grille and new LED-equipped round headlamps. Its also very configurable in a number of unique ways in how you can set up the roof, remove the quarter panels, the doors, and tilt down the windscreen frame.

On the inside, the changes are the most comprehensive. It still retains the upright stance on the inside but has been redesigned from scratch and it looks fresh and contemporary. The geometric, retro-themed styling on the inside works really well and its much more feature equipped now including a touchscreen infotainment system and better ergonomics.

As for the powertrains, the new Jeep Wrangler is expected to come to India with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor. It churns out 271 bhp of power with a peak torque of 400 Nm. The 2.2L diesel engine – which generates 199 bhp puts out a torque of 450 Nm – won’t come initially but if the demand for the same increases it will be launched after a while. Internationally, its also available with a 3.6-litre V6 engine as well. The Jeep Wrangler is an absolute icon when it comes to off-roading and in its brand new form, we can’t wait to see it on our roads.
