The Compass enjoys a clear advantage here. Offering a petrol engine has helped the Compass in pricing terms. The Tiguan is the more premium product of the two. However, in terms of brand value, Jeep towers above the VW in the SUV space. So, this round belongs to the Compass.

Jeep Compass vs Volkswagen Tiguan Specification Comparison

While the Jeep Compass has come to India with a 1.4 L Petrol and a 2.0 L Diesel engine, the Volkswagen Tiguan gets a 2.0 L Diesel engine only. There will be no petrol engine for the Tiguan, at least not at the onset. However, its Diesel engine is more powerful than the oil burner on the Compass. On the other hand, the Jeep Compass offers a 6-speed Manual transmission, 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox (petrol only) and 6-speed manual transmission with the diesel. A 9-speed auto in diesel Compass will come to India soon. In comparison, the Tiguan comes with only a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Jeep Compass vs Volkswagen Tiguan Mileage Comparison

Only the Compass gets a petrol engine here. So, instead we compared the mileage figures of the diesel engines of both cars. Here too, the Compass offers a 6-speed manual gearbox while the Tiguan has a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The efficiency gains resulting from the use of dual-clutch automatic gearbox are evident as the Tiguan’s claimed mileage of 17.06 KMPL is quite close to the Compass’ 17.1 KMPL ARAI-certified figure. Another thing to note here is that Tiguan compared here comes with AWD and matches the mileage of a 4×2 Compass, while the 4×4 Compass lags behind the Tiguan with mileage of 16.3 KMPL. So, the victory goes to Tiguan here.

As is clearly evident, the Volkswagen Tiguan is clearly the more premium product here. Of course, it also has a much higher price tag. Hence, the Jeep Compass and the Volkswagen Tiguan won’t be direct rivals. Moreover, there is no price overlap between the two premium SUVs. Both seem to be really competent products.
