What happens when a 2021 Jeep Compass 2.0L Diesel Facelift and Kia Seltos 1.5L diesel engine engage in a literal tug of war. The results are surprising!
The Jeep Compass is the company’s entry-level model in India. It is one of the few SUVs currently under Rs 30 lakh that comes with an AWD system. Recently, it received a mid-life update. The top-of-the-line diesel comes with an option of a 4×4 drive system. Overall, the Jeep Compass is a formidable off-roader. On the other hand, the Kia Seltos Diesel is among the most successful SUVs right now. It comes with impressive looks, features, and driving dynamics. A new video puts the two cars in a straight-up tug of war.

As you can see in the above YouTube video by Arun Panwar, the Kia Seltos is the clear underdog, to begin with. It is just a matter of managing defeat. The two cars are tied together with a strong rope. In the first round on the rough surface, the Jeep Compass (without traction control) could not move the Kia Seltos. The results were the same in the second rate. The third round was conducted on a concrete road. As expected, the Jeep Compass (without traction control) was the clear winner as it immediately pulled away the Kia Seltos. The fourth round also produced the same results. In the final round, the Jeep Compass with traction control kept stopping. However, it managed a win in the end. Surprisingly, the Kia Seltos barely challenged the Jeep Compass.
The Jeep Compass received a mid-life update in 2021. It gives the SUV a subtly redesigned front-end and added more features to the interior. The 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo-diesel offers 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. It can be paired with either a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed auto, or a newer 9-speed auto transmission. On the other hand, the 1.4-liter 4-pot turbo petrol engine outputs 161 PS/250 Nm of peak power and torque. It is paired with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic. The updated Jeep Compass comes with a price range of Rs 16.99 lakh – Rs 28.29 lakh.

On the other hand, the Kia Seltos Diesel is powered by a 1.5-liter oil-burner engine that offers 115 PS and 250 Nm. On the other hand, the petrol model packs a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine (115 PS, 144 Nm) or a 1.4-liter Turbo with direct injection (140 PS, 242 Nm). All engines can be paired with either a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, 7-speed DCT, or a CVT transmission option. It is to be noted that the Kia Seltos Diesel has received flak for managing to score only a 3-star rating in Global NCAP tests as against a 5-star rating in ASEAN NCAP by the Australian model.
