Compare Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade – Specifications
Specifications | Jeep Compass | Jeep Renegade |
Engine | 1.4-litre turbo petrol/2.0-litre turbo diesel | 1.6-litre turbo diesel |
Power | 160 BHP/170 BHP | 120 BHP |
250 Nm/350 Nm | 320 Nm | |
Transmission | 6-speed MT or 7-speed AT/6-speed MT | 6-speed MT |
If you compare Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade in the specifications table above, you’ll note that while the Compass offers both Petrol and Diesel engines, the Renegade is likely to come to us with just one engine. The India-spec Renegade is likely to share its engine with the S-Cross 1.6, which means it’s likely to get a 1.6-litre Turbo Diesel engine with 120 BHP-320 Nm on tap. The engine will come mated to a 6-speed Manual Transmission. On the other hand, the Compass offers a 1.4-litre Turbo petrol and a 2.0-litre Turbo Diesel engine. The petrol engine, with power and torque outputs of 160BHP-250Nm, comes paired to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The diesel engine, with power and torque outputs of 170BHP-350Nm, makes do with a 6-speed manual gearbox only (for now).

Jeep Compass | 13-14 KMPL (MT)/12-13 KMPL (AT) (estimated) | 17.1 KMPL (4×2)/16.3 KMPL (4×4) (ARAI) |

Thanks to a smaller Diesel engine, the Renegade is clearly more frugal if you compare the fuel efficiency of these two models. However, the Renegade’s mileage figures are expected and not final. The mileage figures of diesel Compass are ARAI-certified, while the ARAI figures for the petrol models are awaited.

Quite obviously, the Compass has larger dimensions than the Renegade. However, the Renegade is slightly taller, which means its cabin could be a bit airier.
Compare Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade – Exterior
The Compass looks chic, modern and masculine. It has the typical Jeep face and in many ways, comes across as a baby brother to the Grand Cherokee. For a small SUV, the Compass has just the right ingredients. Its design oozes enough boldness with a touch of sportiness. The latter is due to the short overhangs and compact dimensions. The Compass looks butch and sophisticated. Bits like the wraparound taillamps add sleekness to the design. Basically, the entire car looks really good.
The Renegade borrows plenty of design features from its siblings. It gets Jeep’s signature seven-slot front grille along with the squarish box-design. You also get circular headlights, boxed out wheel arches, squarish tail-lamps and prominent body cladding all around. There are modern design touches too, including the roof-rails, the glass-area on the sides and the rear.
Compare Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade – Interior
The interior of the Compass is a pretty nice place to be in. It is made of high quality materials and taking the centrestage on the dashboard is the 7-inch UConnect system. The centre console offers many well-placed buttons. The Compass gets a sporty three-spoke steering wheel. The steering wheel has a thick rim, which should make it good for use at all times. A highlight is the Selec-Terrain drive mode selector which occupies a good amount of space ahead of the gear shifter. All in all, the interior of this car looks quite good.
On the inside, the Renegade offers a Uconnect infotainment system which gets a 5-inch or a 6.5-inch touchscreen display depending upon the region. The driver gets a 7-inch display unit which can be configured and the same will double up as an instrument cluster as well. You get a panoramic sunroof and the SUV will get a slew of customisation options as well for the accessories. How much of it makes it to the Indian market remains to be seen. We expect the India-spec model to get a more conventional analogue dial setup for the instrument console. Also, the panoramic sunroof could be given a miss.
Jeep Compass vs Jeep Renegade – Comparison Verdict
Price- Of course, the Compass has a higher price tag as it belongs to a higher segment. The Renegade should be your bet for an easy entry into the Jeep club.

Mileage – The Renegade should be more fuel efficient. This will be due to the lower weight and a smaller diesel engine. The Compass’ diesel engine has ARAI-rated mileage figures, which are less than Renegade’s expected numbers.
Dimensions – The Compass has larger dimensions than the Renegade. However, the Renegade is slightly taller, which means its cabin could be a bit airier.
Design – Both the cars look modern, chic and very proportionate. Our pick of the two, however, is the Compass as it gets cleaner lines and tauter surfaces. It also looks classier of the two.
