Those who wish to buy the diesel-AT variant of Jeep Compass will soon get a cheaper option. This particular setup comes on the top-of-the-line Trailhawk.
Diesel engine with an automatic gearbox is desirable for many people, as it is still fuel-efficient than the petrol-manual counterpart and the gearbox is a relief in the growing city traffic situations.
Jeep finally bought the diesel-automatic in the Compass but on the top-spec Trailhawk variant. The price range of Compass starts off at Rs 15.6 Lakhs going up to Rs 25 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
Autocar reports that Jeep is bringing a cheaper diesel-automatic variant on the Compass. This new variant is expected to launch in India before Diwali itself. It is likely to be based on the base-spec Sport or mid-spec Longitude variants.

New cheaper Jeep Compass variant will also be BS-6 compliant, carrying the same 2.0 Litre turbo-diesel engine underneath. The engine produces 173 BHP an 350 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 9-speed torque converter unit.
Further, this variant will only run on Front Wheel Drive. Even if it is based on the mid-spec or the base-spec trims, the diesel-AT variant will be priced well under 20 Lakhs. If the same variant comes based on the Limited or Limited Plus, the prices would not be that far from that of Trailhawk.
In this price range, you only get the diesel-automatic option in Mahindra XUV500. Harrier is only available with a diesel-manual setup and the Hector gets automatic gearbox on the petrol variant.

As mentioned, Jeep launched the new Compass Trailhawk recently, which is basically a more off-road focused version of the regular Compass. It gets different lean and departure angles and increased ground clearance.
The Trailhawk gets more off-roading features such as a low-range gearbox, rear locking differential, Jeep’s Active Drive System, new Rock Mode and underbody skid plates. The other Compass variants get the Active Drive System but only with Auto, Snow, Sand and Mud modes.
