Jaguar is planning to enter the lucrative luxury crossover market by 2016 and its weapon of choice will be this, a production crossover based on the Jaguar C-X17 Crossover Concept. Jaguar will be revealing the concept vehicle at 12:30 AM on 10th September 2013 (IST), before its official launch at the 2013 Frankfurt Show a few hours later.
The company has released two images of Jaguar C-X17 Crossover Concept, a frontal shot and a shadowy rear-quarter shot. Both photos hint at a stylish, muscular vehicle which is based on JLR’s Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA) platform, first seen on the new Range Rover.
As you can see from the image above, the Jaguar C-X17 Crossover Concept is a pretty stylish vehicle. It takes styling cues from Jaguar’s sedans like the XJ, with similar looking headlight units which give it an aggressive looking front end. The crossover gets Jaguar’s signature gaping grille, the air-intakes in the bumper add to the aggressive styling at the front. The bonnet features muscular lines, two of them form a bulge on the bonnet while the other two follow onto the sides and presumably to the rear.
The C-X17 also gets a silver skid plate at front to give it a bit of a rugged look. The indicator-integrated outside rear-view mirrors are sharp and look pretty good. If you look closely you can also see the white leather interior on the concept car.
The image above is a teaser image of the Jaguar C-X17 Crossover Concept showing the rear quarters of the vehicle. The tail-lamps look similar to the Jaguar F-Type, while the swooping lines suggest a very muscular vehicle. The glass-area at the sides looks similar to that of the beautiful Land Rover Evoque.
While the company has not revealed the powertrain for the vehicle, JLR has a lot of engine options available; From a small 2.0-litre diesel to a supercharged V6 petrol motor will be at Jaguar’s disposal.
When launched in 2016, the crossover could be christened as the Q-Type, but that has not been confirmed by the company as of now.
