Isuzu has been having a decent time in our market, particularly on the back of the V-Cross pickup truck
Isuzu Motors achieved the impressive milestone of 1 lakh sales in India. That is a testament to its popularity considering that it only primarily sells a pickup truck here. We know that V-Cross is one of the most renowned and favourite off-roaders for a whole bunch of car buyers. Isuzu began its operations in India back in 2016 with the manufacturing facility in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh. Within the last two years, the vehicle production of Isuzu has doubled. That is a positive sign for the Japanese carmaker. Let us delve deep into this case.
Isuzu Completes 1 Lakh Sales in India
Unsurprisingly, this milestone was marked with the rollout of the D-Max V-Cross model which has gained the appreciation and interest of thousands of customers. After starting manufacturing in 2016, Isuzu started Phase II operations in 2020 with the inauguration of theย state-of-the-artย Press Shop facility and engine assembly plant. Interestingly, more than 14,00,000 pressed parts have been rolled out from the facility ever since. Over the years, the company has even aligned with its long-term ‘Make in India’ strategy.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Rajesh Mittal, President & Managing Director, Isuzu Motor India, said, “At Isuzu Motors India, we take immense pride in our journey here in India. Over the years, the company has achieved significant milestones in both production and exports. One key highlight is that, around 22% of our production line workforce comprises talented women. This showcases our commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion. Additionally, 100% of our production workforce are diploma engineers and they make world-class vehicles adhering to the same global standards of Isuzuโs manufacturing and operational excellence. This has enabled us to become the leading exporter of commercial vehicles from India. As we continue to grow, we remain committed to provide products and services of the highest level of quality in India and in the overseas market.”
My View
As people get more inclined towards lifestyle off-roading products, vehicles like the V-Cross will get more traction. That is what led to the success of SUVs like the Mahindra Thar Roxx. It remains to be seen how fast the pickup truck segment grows in India going forward. I believe people are getting more attracted towards this category and we still don’t have enough cars on sale in this category. Let us keep an eye out to see how this space expands going forward.
