A vlogger ‘tests’ the build quality of the new and old Maruti Swift in this latest video. The new fourth-generation Swift comes with tons of differentiations in comparison to the outgoing model. This includes exterior styling, features and a new powertrain. However, some people have been vocal about the fact that it is lighter than the previous version. As a result, they are concerned about the build quality. Remember Maruti Swift has not had a great run at the NCAP tests in the past. While we can’t say much about the safety prowess of the new Swift before the official crash test, some influencers have decided to offer a verdict.
Build Quality of Old and New Maruti Swift
This post originates from mrd_vlogs on Instagram. The influencer is in a parking lot while the two Swift cars are parked right next to each other. He mentions that people are talking about the build quality of both these models. Hence, he thought of showing the viewers how tough both of these are simply by pressing the sheetmetal. Firstly, he goes and knocks the bootlid of the new Swift. Immediately thereafter, he repeats the same task for the old Swift. Just by experiencing some difference in the knocking sound, he says that the old Swift looks tougher.
Thereafter, he presses the roof of both hatchbacks. In this case, the sheet of the new Swift bulges a bit, while that of the old model doesn’t bulge that much. Again, he concludes that the new Swift looks weaker. In fact, he even mentions that the Japanese model got 4 stars but that is only due to the fact that it gets ADAS. Note that the Indian version doesn’t get active safety amenities. However, he doesn’t realize that the testing procedure of every NCAP is different. Also, just offering ADAS does not necessarily mean that the safety rating will be high. There are tons of other parameters that must be considered.
Our View
I have been reporting about such unscientific claims of ‘testing’ the build quality of cars by prominent influencers on social media for a long time now. I must advise our readers to never follow these claims blindly. There are proper crash tests in place by dedicated authorities like NCAP. Only their reports are to be trusted. In fact, even those tests are performed in a controlled environment. Hence, the best way to ensure your safety is to drive by following traffic regulations. Also, you must report all those miscreants to the authorities who flout rules and regulations. Let us pledge to be responsible drivers.
