Aftermarket car modification houses offer enticing opportunities to make your vehicle look different from the crowd by offering some unique amenities.
This has to be the first old Toyota Innova in India with an aftermarket panoramic sunroof. Note that this Innova never came with a factory-fitted sunroof. It is the most successful MPV in the country. Even back in 2008, commercial and private users were rising rapidly. Today, we have many iterations of the Innova including Crysta and Hycross. Now, I have reported numerous instances of people heading to the aftermarket car modification houses to make their vehicles stand apart from the crowd. This is one such case. Let us take a look at the details of this instance.
First Old Toyota Innova with Panoramic Sunroof
This post comes from sainimotorsrohtak on Instagram. It captures the visuals pertaining to this unique Innova. One can see the colossal sunroof on the MPV from afar. In fact, the driver of the Innova even moves the car forward and shows the functioning of the sunroof. The entire glass area retracts to open up the roof. At the tap of a button, the glass comes back to its place closing it. Apart from that, the car shop has even modified the interior with ambient lighting and premium upholstery. I must admit this is the first time I have witnessed a panoramic sunroof on the 2008 Toyota Innova.
Pros and Cons of Aftermarket Panoramic Sunroof
Pros
- A panoramic sunroof enhances the appearance of a car (although that is a subjective matter).
- It lets fresh air enter the cabin which can be good for a sense of airiness and space.
- Aftermarket sunroof installation is relatively cheaper.
- You can install a sunroof on just about any car.
- Getting a view of the sky and the outside environment is great for people who suffer from claustrophobia.
Cons
- The fit and finish wouldn’t be as perfect as OEM.
- It adversely affects the structural integrity of the car since a hole is punched through the sheetmetal of a car.
- In some cases, water leakages have also been observed.
- If occupants hang out of the sunroof of a moving car, chances of severe injuries on application of brakes are high.
- The AC performance will be affected since it will take a long time to cool the cabin due to the sun.
- An extra weight is added to the roof which increases the centre of gravity. It negatively impacts the driving dynamics.
- The aerodynamic efficiency of a car is reduced as the airflow is broken due to the hole in the body.
- If broken, it will be expensive to repair.
Our View
In all honesty, I would never advise anyone to go for aftermarket sunroof installation. Extensive R&D is required before deciding how to go about this process without compromising the structural integrity of a car and ensuring that the operation is smooth and there are no issues like leakages or insulation. Hence, OEMs have done thorough research on this topic. Aftermarket car modification houses just can’t match that level of engineering. Therefore, I would recommend opting for the model which comes with a factory-fitted sunroof only.
