There is no limit to human creativity and this latest video proves just that where a YouTuber has developed a solar-powered Mahindra Thar.
Displaying unique creativity, a man has designed a solar electric Mahindra Thar 4×4. Who would’ve thought that a bulky SUV like the Thar could be powered by solar energy? Thar is the most popular and successful lifestyle off-roader in the country. That can be proven by its insane sales numbers. That could also be the reason why some people choose it as their blank canvas to express their passion for engineering. This is one such case where an automobile enthusiast followed his passion and made a mini Thar in his garage.

Solar Electric Mahindra Thar 4×4
The video has been uploaded by MR. INDIAN HACKER Vlogs on YouTube. He is among the biggest YouTubers in the country with over 31 million subscribers on his main channel and over 2.2 million subscribers on this second channel. This time around, he introduces the audience to the mastermind behind this unique vehicle. His friend has used the chassis of a Maruti 800 and made the body panels and all other components in his garage. This includes a 3-door configuration, headlights, auxiliary LED lights on the front bumper and roof in addition to traditional round headlamps, rugged bumpers at the front and rear and solar panels on the roof.

Dual Powertrains
There are two powertrains with this mini Thar – an electric motor and a petrol engine. The front wheels are driven by the petrol motor while the rear wheels are driven by the electric motor. There is a 100 Ah and 72 V battery that can be charged using the solar panels, as well as energy regeneration from the engine itself. On a full charge, one could sequester a decent all-electric driving range of 100 km. In electric mode, the operation is quite smooth. The interior is borrowed from the Maruti 800 and 4 people can sit in it comfortably.

Price
The designer has not made this for business purposes but simply as a passion project. For this, he ended up spending just Rs 3 lakh, which is incredible. He is able to construct a whole car from an old Maruti 800 with just a small amount. Understandably, this is not a commercial car and is not road legal. But one could definitely use it in rural areas for low running costs and to carry out routine chores in and around the villages. This could be particularly beneficial in areas where sunlight is in abundance as one could easily charge it even while moving.
