In a strange turn of events, a BMW 6 Series has surfaced which bears a CNG powertrain. Now, you might have seen aftermarket car shops retrofit CNG kits on regular cars. However, to see it on a premium luxury car is unprecedented. CNG offers lower running costs in comparison to petrol. However, it also affects the performance of the vehicle slightly negatively. BMW 6 Series with CNG Powertrain
This video comes from Saifuel Vadodara (Saifuel) on YouTube. The host in this video showcases that distinct Bimmer to the viewers which carries a CNG heart. This 6 Series bears a coupe silhouette and comes with the typical BMW appearance. However, this is a much older model which explains the exterior and interior styling. In fact, the interior looks completely outdated. In any case, the host opens the bonnet of the BMW car and shows 8 CNG injectors on the CNG rails for the 8 cylinders of this car.
These have been fitted professionally along with the filling valve inside the engine bay. One can even see the ECU of the vehicle which stores all the programs of the car. There is a switch on the driver’s side door in the cabin from where one can switch the CNG mode ON and OFF. At the moment, the CNG gas in this BMW is low. Still, the host takes it out for a ride in the city. He confirms that there are no major differences in terms of the driving dynamics or ride quality. Hence, the installation has been successful. The kit comes from Zavoli which is a market leader in this space. We also get to hear the throaty growl of the car from its quad exhaust setup.

Fitting a CNG kit in the aftermarket is a practice a lot of new car owners are adopting. However, they perform it on budget cars. They often look for ways to bring the ownership and running costs down. We know that the fuel prices have gone astronomical in recent times. Therefore, CNG cars are gaining popularity, especially for city dwellers. There is enough infrastructure around to ensure that people don’t have to wait long hours to get CNG filled. Hence, people are heading to the aftermarket to get a CNG kit installed on their cars. But to see premium luxury cars with CNG kits is quite intriguing.
