With a couple of important launches, August 2012 has been an important month for the Indian automobile Industry. Despite the fact that the market is still experiencing a sales slow down, major car makers are not hesitating to launch new models. But are the new models actually helping the brands grow or they are yet to gain the expected momentum. Let us find out all that with the sales report for the month of August 2012.
Maruti Suzuki India Car Sales Report In August 2012
India’s number one car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India has shown a cumulative drop (domestic + exports) of 40.8 % in August 2012 with 54142 units as against 91442 units in August 2011. The main reasons behind the drop is the unfortunate violence and shut-down of Manesar plant of Maruti Suzuki which led to production losses. Segment wise the entry level series comprising of Maruti 800, A-Star, Alto and Wagon-R is down by 41.2 %. Swift, Estilo and Ritz together are also down by 62.2 %. SX4 and Kizashi are not selling much numbers and are showing a decrease of more than 75 %. In the compact sedan category even the Dzire has started to show inevitable drop of 60.7 %, while in the utility vehicle segment Maruti’s sales are again getting affected by the plant shutdown. These sales figures are more influenced by the recent mishap at the Manesar plant.
Hyundai India Car Sales Report In August 2012
Hyundai Motors India, the second largest car manufacturer and country’s largest car exporter has registered a cumulative sales drop of 8 % for the month of August 2012 with 46,886 units as against 51,012 units in August 2011. The manufacturer has registered domestic sales growth of 5.9 % with 28,257 units sold in August 2012 as against 26,677 units in August 2011. Similarly for the sales from exports, the company has registered a drop of 23.4 % with 18,629 units in August 2012 against 24,335 units in the same month last year. Segment wise the A2 league (Eon, Santro, i10 and i20) has sold 40,029 units, the A3 segment(Accent and Verna) 6145 units, A4 Segment Elantra sold 608 units, the A5 segment Sonata 19 units and lastly the SUV Santa Fe 65 units.
Mahindra & Mahindra India Car Sales Report In August 2012
Mahindra & Mahindra, India’s leading SUV manufacturer recorded a cumulative growth of 22% in auto sales with 45,836 units sold in August 2012 as against 37,684 units sold in August 2011. The company’s domestic sales were 42826 units last month as against 35756 units in August 2011, an increase of 20 %. The passenger vehicle segment registered a growth of 30 % with 21831 units in August 2012 as against 15664 units in August 2011. M&M exports have also rose from 1928 units in August 2011 to 3010 units in August 2012.
Tata Car Sales Report In August 2012
Tata Motors’ commercial and passenger vehicle sales in August 2012 were 71826 units, including exports. This figure expresses a 12 % growth over the figures recorded in last year’s corresponding month. The company’s total domestic sales for commercial and passenger vehicles were 67453 units which is a 13 % increase over 59874 units sold in August 2011. The company’s exports sales are up by 4 % with 4373 units in August 2012 compared to 4204 vehicles in August last year. Tata Nano’s sales are up by 441 % with 6507 units compared to last year August’s 1202 units. Sales for Indica series were at 7591 units as againts 7206 units in August 2011, a 5 % increase. The Indigo range recorded a 29 % drop with 3629 units as against 5100 units in August 2011. Utility vehicle line-up consisting of Sumo, Safari, Aria and Venture sales have grown by 38 %.
Honda Car Sales Report In August 2012
Leading premium car manufacturer Honda SIEL Cars India has registered an impressive growth of 54 % during April-August 2012 despite the fact that petrol prices have come down by a small margin only. The company sold 29,932 units as against 19,433 units in April to August 2011. But for the month of August only, Honda sold 5470 units against 6907 units in August 2011, facing an 21 % drop. The company hopes to recover its sales before the festive season. Individual car sales are as follows: Brio – 2335, City – 2536, Jazz – 465, Civic – 53, Accord – 34 and CR-V – 47.
Toyota India Car Sales Report In August 2012
Toyota Kirloskar Motors has registered a growth of 20 % in August 2012. The growth comes from 13995 units that the company has sold in August 2012 over 11679 units in the corresponding month last year. Model wise distribution is as follows: The Etios hatchback and sedan together sold 5689 units compared to 5524 units in August 2011, thereby registering a 3 % increase. Innova registered a 50 % growth with 6439 units as against 4303 units sold in August last year. The SUV Fortuner has also expressed a growth of 44 % with 1289 units in August 2012 as compared to 897 units sold in August 2011. Camry shows a growth of 76 % while Corolla Altis faces a 54 % dip.
Ford India Car Sales Report In August 2012
For the month of August 2012, Ford India has expressed a 6 % increase in its domestic car sales with 7840 units sold as against 7382 units in August 2011. Cumulative sales including domestic wholesales and export units in August were 10352 vehicles which is a 16 % increase over the numbers it made in August 2011. From January to August 2012 the company has exported 2512 vehicles which is an 18 % increase over the exports for the corresponding time last year.
General Motors(Chevrolet) India Car Sales Report In August 2012
General Motors India has reported a decline of 17 % in its sales with 7510 units for August 2012. Last year in August, the company registered sales of 9050 units but this year the sales are down by a considerable percentage. The August sales include 4226 units of Chevrolet Beat, 2217 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 530 units of Chevrolet Spark, 337 units of Chevrolet Cruze and 139 units of Chevrolet Aveo. The company did not share the sales figures of Optra and Captiva for the month of August 2012.
Nissan India Car Sales Report In August 2012
Nissan India has exhibited its sales figures for the month of August 2012 and interestingly it has registered a growth of a whopping 186.5 %. This year in August, Nissan India sold 3953 units as against 1384 units sold in the same month last year. The two important models being sold by the company, Nissan Sunny and Nissan Micra, together sold 3944 units in the month of August. Premium products such as X-Trail, Teana and 370Z also added a little to the growing sales.
Audi India Car Sales Report In August 2012
Audi India has registered an year to date sales growth of 48 % (accounting for all the cars sold from January to August 2012). Since the beginning of the year, the company has sold 5406 units till date. Compared to what the sold during January to December 2011, which is 5511 units, this year the company has a better sales pace and is on its way to surpass previous year’s sales. For the month of August 2012 the company sold 726 units as against 510 units sold in August 2011, expressing a 42 % improvement.
