Mercedes Benz will launch the A Class in India in three variants – petrol, diesel and AMG – and the carmaker is already accepting bookings for the car on their website.
Mercedes Benz debuted the A Class sedan at the 2020 Auto Expo and now, the carmaker has revealed some more details about the upcoming first-gen CLA replacement in India. The A Class sedan or limousine as Mercedes likes to call it, will be available in three variants in India – petrol, diesel and AMG. Mercedes has even unofficially started bookings for the A-Class sedan on their website.
Mercedes has also revealed that the petrol and diesel variants of the A Class will be available in a single fully-loaded trim called the Progressive line. Standard features on this variant of the A Class will include features like twin 10.25-inch displays for the infotainment and instrumentation, the brands new MBUX infotainment system with integrated navigation, connected-car technology, dual-zone climate control, LED headlamps, panoramic sunroof, cruise control, powered front seats with memory and wireless smartphone charging.
The AMG version will come with much more jazz up its sleeve. Akin to the model that was shown at the Auto Expo, the A Class AMG will have more aggressive front and rear bumpers for a sportier look, side skirts, different designs for the alloy wheels and a subtle spoiler on the rear boot lid as well. It will ahev several sporty touches on the interior too like AMG model-specific front seats, AMG steering wheel, along with different trim inserts. The AMG model additionally will come with a Burmester surround sound system as standard.

Mercedes has however not revealed the engine details of the A Class sedan for India. We however expect that the petrol version will be powered by a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine that’s good for 163hp (A 200). The diesel version meanwhile is expected to be powered by a 1.5L unit that is good for 116hp (A 180d). As for the AMG model, internationally its available in a AMG A35-spec and that was the same model that was shown at the Auto Expo. Going by that, the AMG A Class in India will be powered by a 306hp, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine with standard four-wheel drive.

We expect the prices for the Mercedes A Class sedan to range in between Rs 32-40 lakh, ex-showroom for the petrol and diesel variants while the AMG A35 will cost significantly more. You can expect it cost above Rs 50 lakh. In India, the Mercedes A Class sean will rival the likes of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe which is also set to arrive in India later this year.
