Ford Motor Company of Australia has recalled 2804 units of the India made Ford EcoSport cars in Australia. This recall is made due to wiring issue. This recall covers the cars manufactured in India between 15th June 2013 to 26th August 2014. The Ford vehicles are exported internationally from Ford’s Chennai plant in India.
According to Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), this recall has been conducted due to improper alignment of the curtain airbag, side impact sensor circuits and seat belt pre-tensioner in the main wiring harness, which may lead to causing injury to the passenger in case of collision of the car.
The customers have been asked by Ford of Australia to contact their nearest authorized Ford dealers to get their EcoSport cars checked and get the wiring issues rectified if needed.
Ford covers the warranty of its vehicles for first three years, but in another issue related to the recall of Ford cars, Ford Australia has extended warranties on around 50,000 units of the EcoSport, Focus and Fiesta car models from 3 years or 100,000 km to 5 years or 160,000 km since the six-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic transmission) was facing excessive clutch shudder during light acceleration.
The ongoing Ford EcoSport in India comes in both petrol and diesel variants. The three-cylinder 1.0 EcoBoost petrol engine churns out maximum power of 122 BHP and 170 Nm of peak torque, mated to a five-speed manual transmission. It has a mileage of 18.9 km/l.
The 1.5 TiVCT petrol engine produces 110 BHP of maximum power and 140 Nm of peak torque, mated to a five-speed manual or six-speed dual clutch automatic transmission with a fuel efficiency of 15.9 km/l.

In India as well, many car makers have been recalling their cars lately due to faulty issues. Since the India made Ford EcoSport have been recalled in Australia, it is likely that EcoSport models plying on Indian roads might be affected with the same problem which needs rectification.
