The popular Renault Duster has already been launched in many international markets and the India launch is slated for 2025. Note that the Duster has to be credited with the title of being the first mid-size SUV in our country. It began this segment back in 2012. Today, there are mid-size SUVs from every major carmaker. However, the Duster is no longer on sale. It was overpowered by the competition which offered the latest tech and multiple powertrain options. The Duster was not able to keep up with the changes to rival these. Hence, it was discontinued. But the Duster fans can now rejoice as the latest generation model is India-bound.
Renault Duster SUV Spotted Testing
The details of these spy images stem from carwaleindia on Instagram. At the front, it gets the same sleek grille section with rectangular LED headlamps with LED DRLs which we saw on the international model. Additionally, the rectangular bumper with a large radiator grille and vertical air intake on the extreme edges of the bumper look neat. The upright stance elevates the SUV-ish traits. Moving down the sides, one gets to witness the large roof rails, prominent wheel arches, large alloy wheels and a long side profile. This is the 3-row iteration of the Duster.
I must admit that this doesn’t look like an Indian road to me. But this long 7-seat model might make it to our shores to offer practicality to Indian customers. The large alloy wheels fill up the wheel arches rather well. At the rear, there is a distinct roof-mounted spoiler and a shark fin antenna. I find the taillamps to be somewhat similar to the old-generation model. However, I can’t confirm that until the SUV is unveiled in all its glory. Still, the overall appearance is definitely modern which will enhance its road presence.
Specs
The international model comes with three powertrain options – a 1.0-litre 3-cyl LPG + Petrol unit generates a decent 100 hp, a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine with mild hybrid tech which produces a healthy 130 hp and a 1.6-litre 4-cyl hybrid engine which churns out an impressive 140 hp of peak power. There are options to select from either a manual or an automatic transmission. The SUV even offers FWD or AWD versions. We shall have to see which one makes it to our shores.
