Maruti is planning to launch the 5-door version of the Jimny in India for quite some time now and these fresh renderings point to what the production-spec model might look like.
The India-bound Maruti Jimny looks quite promising in these latest pics. People have been eagerly waiting for the compact off-roader ever since it was showcased at the Auto Expo. These images give a vivid idea of what the production-ready version could look like. The regular Jimny is a 3-door SUV but Maruti knows that people in India are waiting for a more practical version. Hence, the 5-door version is warranted. In fact, Mahindra is also readying the 5-door Thar to attract more customers. The front fascia of the Jimny is quite robust and hosts a butch exterior, a black grille with vertical slats, round headlamps, a rugged bumper design with fog lamps on either side and an upright bonnet for that SUV-ish stance.

On the sides, one clearly witnesses the massive wheel arches wrapped in chunky body cladding, off-road-focussed high-profile tyres and relatively curve-less side body panels. At the rear, the tailgate is almost flat which is reminiscent of a typical old-school SUV, the spare tyre is mounted on the boot lid, the bumper has a sturdy look and the taillamps are horizontal. All in all, it is a typical design pattern that we have seen on the international model for so many years.

Specs
The Suzuki Jimny will most likely be powered with the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, which makes 103hp and 138Nm. It is the same engine that powers the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ciaz and Ertiga. There will be a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox on offer and maybe the inclusion of drive modes to enhance terrain responses and traction control. We expect the prices to remain in the vicinity of the Thar, say from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh, ex-showroom range. It will be sold through the NEXA department of Maruti Suzuki.
