Actor Imran Khan narrates the story of why he sold his Ferrari and bought a VW Polo GT instead. Imran is a hardcore automobile aficionado. He loves working on cars and modifying them himself as per his desires. In fact, his Polo GT is a prime example of that. Polo is an iconic name in the international market even though it ceased to exist in India back in 2022. There were some rumours about the new generation model coming to our shores. But that never happened. Therefore, the Polo remained a niche product exclusively for the driving enthusiasts.
Imran Khan Sold His Ferrari For VW Polo GT

During their conversation, Imran’s pure love and passion for automobiles shine through. In the beginning, he mentions that the Ferrari was too difficult for him to handle in the bustling streets of Mumbai. Hence, he sold it and bought the Polo GT instead. In fact, this is the last of the 1.2-litre models with DSG transmission in India. He regrets missing the opportunity to buy the limited edition Polo GTI. Consequently, he decided to modify his Polo GT to turn it into a hot hatch.
The fun really begins once he starts listing out the customizations he made on his car. This Polo has a State 2 engine and ECU tuning. To begin with, he swapped the suspension system to enhance the handling characteristics. Thereafter, he changed the entire air intake system along with the exhaust pipe. In fact, the sound of the exhaust is just so sporty. He has installed Euro-spec components to boost the overall performance of the hatchback. Moreover, he slapped on 1-inch-larger wheels than the stock and OEM paddle shifters. On the inside, he replaced the central cabin light and headlight switch. All in all, major changes are under the skin.

It is heartening to see a real car enthusiast celebrity. What I like the most about this conversation is that he said that he doesn’t want to be the guy who just purchases a performance car but someone who builds his cars. In fact, he has performed most modifications to his car on his own. That is a mark of a true car buff. Also, he has focused more on performance rather than aesthetics. Hence, the new components have gone toward ensuring that the driving dynamics of the car make it behave like a proper hot-hatch. I hope to keep reporting more such stories in the future.
