Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of the popular South Korean car manufacturer, will soon come up with a new CNG model of its Xcent compact sedan. The new car will be called as the Hyundai Xcent Prime and will launch next month. The new model will boast a DEDST (Dual ECU Dynamic Sequential Technology) CNG kit with separate injectors. The CNG kitted will be factory-fitted and will be offered on the petrol engine variant. Of course, the car will come with a 2 years-unlimited kilometers manufacturer’s warranty. The Xcent Prime will be targeted at the taxi market. Currently, the taxi version of the Xcent comes with a 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT petrol engine that outputs 81 BHP and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Prime variant will be available on the taxi version only. It will be mainly targeted at the fleet operators in metros like Delhi, where Diesel cars can’t be registered with a commercial license plate. The Xcent Prime CNG model will boost the sales of the compact sedan’s taxi variant. Currently, the manufacturer sells around 2,000-3,000 units of the Xcent Prime every month. Its main rival is the Maruti Suzuki Dzire Tour.

The highlight of the new CNG kit will be the Dual ECU technology that comprises of separate injectors for the natural gas. This leads to optimal gas flow and hence, a lag-free performance. Cars are known to lose grunt when driven on CNG, but this system ensures no such trouble is encountered. Also, the system automatically switches to Petrol in case you run out of gas. It does look like the new Hyundai Xcent Prime CNG model would find wide acceptance among the fleet operators.

The Xcent Prime CNG model will have a 1.2-litre petrol engine that can also run on CNG. When running on petrol, this engine outputs 81 BHP and 114 Nm. The outputs of the CNG model will be quite lower. However, the new dual ECU setting will ensure a lag-free performance.

Being a taxi-only variant, the new Xcent Prime CNG model won’t too many creature comforts. The car misses out on bits like steering-mounted audio controls, music system and automatic climate control. However, it does get an air conditioner, power steering, rear AC vents and all four power windows. There’s also a 12V charging port.

The CNG variant won’t look much different from other engine variants in the lineup. It will get a few new decals and badges. Other than that, there won’t be any change in the design. The Prime models of the Xcent look too different from the new 2017 Hyundai Xcent facelift that went on sale earlier this year. Actually, these taxi variants still carry the pre-facelift look. On the other hand, the Xcent 2017 facelift with a comprehensively updated front-end that features Hyundai’s ‘cascading-effect’ grille. It also get bits like new LED taillamps and LED DRLs at front. The Prime misses out on all this. Xcent Prime gets 14-inch steel wheels and doesn’t get premium bits like chrome garnishings and body-coloured door handles.
Hyundai Xcent Prime CNG Model Interior Changes
Even on the inside, the Xcent Prime CNG model will look exactly like other engine variants in the lineup. It won’t get the changes that the facelift did. The Xcent Prime doesn’t offer a music system and only offers bits like rear AC vents, power steering, power windows and a 12V charging socket.
