The upcoming Hyundai Kona at 2018 Auto Expo is expected to launch in India around mid-2018. The compact SUV will be showcased at the upcoming 2018 Auto Expo. The official sales are expected to start in the second half of the year. The i30 based crossover will be positioned under the Creta upon launch and will compete with the likes of Ford Ecosport, Renault Duster and upcoming Toyota CH-R.

The upcoming Hyundai Kona SUV will be offered with various engine options. For the enthusiasts, Hyundai could launch the Kona with a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine delivering 177 PS of power and 265 Nm of torque. Another petrol engine option remains the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that churns out 149 PS of power and 179 Nm of torque. The former pulls the compact SUV from 0-100kph in just 7.7 seconds, while the normally aspirated unit takes 10 seconds. The 1.6-litre turbo engine is offered with a 7-speed DCT transmission while the 2.0-liter gets 6-speed automatic gearbox. For the fuel-conscious buyers, there is an option of 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that makes 120 PS of power and 172 Nm of torque. MAted to a six-speed transmission, it maxes out at 180 kph while the 0-100 kph time comes in at 12 seconds. We expect Hyundai to use the diesel motor doing its duty in the Verna along with the rest of the engine options.

The Hyundai Kona SUV is based on the Hyundai i30 platform. The same platform will be underpinning the upcoming Kia Stonic. The Hyundai Kona’s length, width and height measure 4,165 mm, 1,800 mm, 1,550mm respectively. The compact SUV holds a wheelbase of 2,600mm. When compared to the existing compact SUV, the Hyundai Creta, the upcoming Kona is shorter by 105 mm, narrower by 20 mm, sits 120 mm lower and has a marginally longer wheelbase at 10 mm.
