The first electric SUV gets launched in India and it is the Hyundai Kona EV. The much-anticipated EV from Hyundai sits between Creta and Venue and is priced about 60% more than its petrol and diesel counterparts. We bring you a total of Five highlights about the country’s first electric SUV
Exterior and Interiors
The front of the Hyundai Kona misses out on grille and gets replaced by a charging slot. It gets full LED Headlamps and LED DRLs just below it. The eSUV sits on 17-inch dual tone alloy wheels and plastic cladding runs all over the body. The interiors of Hyundai Kona India EV looks premium and upmarket. It gets an all-black theme with silver accents on the switches and the centre console.

Features and Safety Features
The eSUV gets an electric sunroof, front ventilated and heated seats, 10-way power adjustable driver seat with lumbar support, Electronic parking brake, button type shift by wire technology and among others.
It also gets leather seats, digital instrument cluster, 17.7cm touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Voice Recognition as connectivity features. Bi-Function LED headlamps, steering mounted audio controls are also some of the premium features.
Features exclusively for EV include Drive Mode Select (Eco/Eco+/Comfort and Sport), Paddle Shifters, adjustable regeneration braking, One pedal drive and utility mode.
The car gets Six Airbags, Hill Assist Control, Rear Parking Sensor, Rear Parking Camera, ABS with EBD, VSM, ESC, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and All Disc Brakes come as standard safety features.
Electric Motor Specification
Hyundai Kona EV gets a 39.2 kWh advanced lithium-ion polymer battery which produces 136 bhp with 394 Nm of peak torque. The car takes about 9.7 seconds to go from 0-100 km/h. The battery gets a liquid cooling technology.
Hyundai Kona can juice up its battery up to 80% with the help of a fast car charger against the 6 hours with a normal charger. The customers will be provided by two chargers – a portable charger and an AC wall box charger. The portable unit can be plugged into any normal 3-pin 15 AMP socket and can charge up to 50 km in 3 hours.

The claimed range for the Hyundai Kona stands at 452 km by ARAI on a single charge. However, the real-time driving range could come down to 380-400 kms easily, which is also great.
After Sales, Warranty and Competition
To promote the use of EV and to make the car easy on the pockets, Hyundai offers a warranty of 3 years and unlimited kilometres warranty along with a warranty for its high voltage battery for 8 years and up to 1.6 Lakh kms. It will compete with the likes of MG eZS which is scheduled to launch later this year.
Pricing
It is priced at Rs 25.30 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It has been brought down through the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) Route with some parts been locally assembled here to keep the price in check.
