After unveiling the i30 N and I30 Tourer, Hyundai, the popular Korean auto major, has decided to come up with yet another variant of the i30 hatchback. The new 2018 Hyundai i30 Fastback is basically the third body-style, after the hatchback and the estate, to join the line-up. In the company’s ever growing product portfolio, the latest Fastback will find itself slotted between the Verna and the Elantra. In all probability, the i30 Fastback will greet us at the Auto Expo 2016. It may be noted here that the last generation i30 hatchback was showcased the last Expo to gauge the response of the show-goers. While chances of an India launch are pretty much bleak at the moment, the new model could make for an interesting option in near future.

Engine options for the new car include two turbocharged direct injection petrol engines – a three-pot 1.0-litre motor that outputs 120 BHP and a four-cylinder 1.4-litre mill that outputs 140 BHP. While the smaller engine comes mated to a six-speed Manual Transmission, the larger also gets a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The Diesel engine option will come in the form of a 1.6-litre Turbo motor that will be available with both manual and dual-clutch gearboxes. The i30 Fastback offers an entire gamut of safety features. It gets bits like Autonomous Emergency Braking, Driver Attention Alert, High Beam Assist and Lane Keeping Assist System other than standard features like ABS with EBD and 6 airbags. Internationally, the new car rivals the Audi A3 Saloon and the Mazda 3 Fastback.

Hyundai i30 Fastback India Launch Date
Expected India Debut | February 2018 |
Like we said, chances of the new Hyundai making it to our shores are pretty much bleak at the moment. That said, possibility of an India debut at the Auto Expo 2018 can’t really be ruled out. Last year, Hyundai came up with the last-generation i30 hatchback at its pavilion in Auto Expo 2016. This time around, we won’t be too surprised to see the new Fastback at the next Delhi motor show.
It may be noted here that Hyundai India, if at all it ever decides to launch the i30 Fastback here, will find it really tough to position the new vehicle in the tightly packed market. We already have the Elantra in the D1 segment and the C2 segment will soon see the advent of the new Verna. Hence, positioning the new i30 Fastback between these won’t be an easy task. Hyundai India might still decide to bring the new car here and market it as a relatively affordable lifestyle car. Fingers crossed!

Hyundai i30 Fastback Prices
Estimated Starting Price | £17,000 |
Hyundai is yet to release the prices of its newest baby. However, as this new car will sit between the i30 hatch and the Tourer, prices could start around £17,000. Internationally, the new Hyundai i30 Fastback will be pitted against the Audi A3 Saloon and the Mazda 3 Fastback. While it’s too early to speculate on the car’s India price list, it’s for sure that new model, if at all it comes here, won’t command the kind of premium that the A3 does. In India, the latest i30 model could still find a place for itself between the Verna and the Elantra. Hence, prices would lie somewhere in the Rs 12 Lakh – 15 Lakh range.

Hyundai i30 Fastback Exterior and Interior Design
The new Hyundai i30 Fastback has a really dynamic stance and boasts some bold and sporty lines. Thanks to a small reduction in the height of the ‘cascading-effect’ front grille, the nose of the new i30 variant looks wider and more planted. There’s a horizontal air intake right below the front grille, which further helps the nose to look more handsome. A rather discreet front spoiler lends a sporty touch. The sleek headlamps boast of LED DRLs and lend the car a premium look.
The new Hyundai model has a really sophisticated silhouette that boasts coupe-like proportions. Much of this is because of the sloping roofline. The taut surfaces, along with the bold creases, further help the car look more dynamic. The pronounced wheel arches help give the car a touch of sportiness. Compared to the hatchback, the Fastback’s roof is lowered by 25 millimetres. This gives the car a more planted look and improved aerodynamics.
The rear is a reflection of the front. It looks dynamic and sufficiently sporty. The rear-end gets a rear spoiler integrated into its tailgate. Thanks to some bold creases and sharp sculpting, there’s a vivid play of light and shadow. This goes on to make the car’s posterior even more attractive. The C-pillar and the rear windshield, in a manner typical of notchbacks, flow into the bootlid and reinforce the car’s tapered belt line.
On the inside, the interior is a bit like that of the i30 hatchback. That said, the car gets a really modern cabin with a premium feel to it. The highlight of the interior has to be the large infotainment screen on the dashboard. Akin to the exterior, the design of the interior panels is modern and has a touch of sportiness to it.
