The i20 N-Line comes with a 1.0-litre direct injection turbo petrol engine making 120 PS and 172 Nm of peak power and torque respectively. There are options of either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed quick-shifting DCT gearbox. There are some mechanical differences in the N-Line version of the i20 compared to the regular model. The VW Polo, on the other hand, comes with its legendary 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine making 110 PS and 175 Nm of peak power and torque. The Hyundai i20 is arguably the most extensively feature-packed product in the premium hatchback segment. The 10.25-inch Touchscreen Infotainment System comes equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with Hyundai’s own Connected Car Tech with Bluelink App and wireless charging. There is an air purifier incorporated in the centre console between the two seats. Another segment first is the Bose 7-Speaker Audio System with a subwoofer. For the love of Sunroofs in India, Hyundai has made sure that this premium hatchback comes with an electric sunroof as well. Other features include Ambient lighting, Automatic climate control, Cruise Control, Rear AC Vents, Leatherette Upholstery, Cooled Glovebox and Keyless Entry and Go.

In spite of being a decade-old car, VW has managed to incorporate some modern features like Digital Infotainment System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Steering mounted controls, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control. Safety features include ABS, Dual airbags, vehicle stability control system, ISOFIX child seat mounts but it does miss out on 360-degree camera, Hill-start Assist and traction control. So, although it is not a brand new car, Volkswagen has kept its Polo up-to-date. But still, it misses out on some of the latest features like Wireless Charging, Digital Instrument Cluster, Rear AC vents, Rear armrest with cup holders and phone holder.

Verdict
Well, these two premium hatchbacks are extremely popular and capable offerings in their own rights. The Hyundai i20 N-Line is a modern car with all the modern tech and convenience features, comforts, stylish and premium things. Hyundai has done a lot to enhance the driving experience to justify the hot-hatch tag associated with it. It is also the more expensive one, although we don’t know the actual prices. Expectedly, the i20 N-Line will be priced somewhere around Rs 12 lakh mark.

On the other hand, the only point of contention with the VW Polo is its age. But with that, comes a lot more compromises. This includes an outdated cabin and features, decade-old exteriors styling, slightly less powerful engine. However, if you want to save some buck without compromising on the driving dynamics of the car, you can still opt for the Polo. But if you have the budget and want all the latest tech in your car, the i20 N-Line is the one for you.
