Hyundai has revealed the i20 N Line, the new performance inspired, range-topper in the third-gen i20 lineup. This is not a full-fledged N car but the N Line variant is more like a sporty variant of the standard car.
While India preps to receive the third-gen Hyundai i20 this festive season, the Korean carmaker has revealed the i20 N Line, the new performance inspired, range-topper in the third-gen i20 lineup. This is also the first time that the i20 has received the N Line treatment. Hyundai is expected to launch the i20 N Line in the international markets in the first half of 2021. Let’s look at this hot-hatch version of the i20 in a little more detail.
Now this being an N Line model, there certainly will be some styling differences from the standard car to set it apart. Now this is not a full-fledged N car but the N Line variant is more like a sporty variant of the standard car. Think of the differences as with BMW M cars and their M optional package. Still, the styling elements are inspired by Hyundai’s N performance arm and it looks distinctly sporty.
The front end of the Hyundai i20 N Line gets a sportier looking bumper with a contrasting grey stripe and also a new grille with a “chequered flag” style pattern with a prominent N Line style badge. At the rear, the i20 N Line gets a diffuser-style bumper with a little more cuts and creases, a new triangular fog-light like that of the i30 N hot hatch and a chrome twin-exit exhaust as well. There are also new bespoke two-tone 17-inch alloy wheels and Hyundai is offering four color options – Phantom Black, Aurora Grey, Brass and Polar White – the last of which can be had with a contrasting black roof and looks the best in our opinion.
The interior layout and design of the i20 N Line is largely similar to that of the standard car that was unveiled some time ago. But of course there are some N Line treatment in the form of N Line badging and red contrast stitching throughout. It also gets new sports front seats, a bespoke steering wheel, metal pedals and an N-branded leather gear knob. Just like the standard i20, the N Line variant also gets Hyundai’s Bluelink connectivity software and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems.

The powertrain options on the i20 N Line aren’t much overwhelming though. Internationally, Hyundai is offering the i20 N Line with either a 84hp 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine or the 1.0L three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine in either 100hp or 120hp specs of tune. Both the engines are equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid technology and Hyundai is even offering the new iMT gearbox with the N Line for added efficiency. Hyundai has however tuned the car’s suspension setup, accelerator response and exhaust sound for a sportier driving experience.

As of yet, there has been no word about Hyundai bringing the i20 N Line to India. However, there have been talks about Hyundai bringing their N brand to India for some time now, and if not the full-fledged i20 N hot-hatch, Hyundai will surely find enough takers for the i20 N Line in India given its sporty looks, decently powerful engines and feature-rich interiors. In fact, it will be perfect competition for the upcoming crop of turbo-petrol hatchbacks in India like the Tata Altroz Turbo and the VW Polo GT TSI.
