Hyundai i20 Active, a premium crossover car, has been upgraded recently to take on the recently launched Ford Freestyle. The facelifted version has been unveiled in the international markets and will be coming to India too. There have been some minor updates, which will be carried forward in the Indian market too.
Hyundai i20 is the carmaker’s only crossover model and it has been performing quite well in the market. i20 Active received the last update in 2015 and now the facelift version of the crossover has been unveiled in the international markets. The car gets some minor cosmetic updates with some added features. However, the car does not look totally different than the current variant.

Hyundai i20 Active gets updated headlamps and bumpers. However, the main upgrades are done in the rear body of the car. The tail lights get an added LED element and the number plate of the car has moved up to the tailgate of the car. The European model also gets a ‘Phantom Black’ roof and two new paint options. However, it is not confirmed yet if India will receive the same upgrades.
Also, the other parts like the bumpers, roof mounted rails and other elements remain same as the current variant. It also continues to get the round fog lamps in the front and rear, which distinctively differentiates it from the regular model. In international facelift version, the i20 Active will come with an optional seven-speed dual-clutch auto gearbox, and an idle stop-start system, aimed at boosting fuel efficiency. It is unlikely that Indian version would get the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The current i20 Active in India sports a 1.2 Litre VTVT petrol engine and a 1.4 Litre CRDi turbocharged diesel engine. The petrol engine produces 82 BHP worth power and 115 Nm worth torque. The diesel engine produces 89 BHP worth power and 220 Nm worth torque. Also, it is speculated that there would not be any changes in the engine specifications of the upcoming facelift model.
In terms of features and interiors, most of the elements would remain the same. The Hyundai i20 Active facelift might get a new surround system, a larger touch infotainment system, LED DRLs and a little more features. The current i20 Active features 5 Airbags, Automatic Headlamps, keyless entry, rear parking camera and sensor, start-stop button and a climate control option. Currently, i20 Active starts from Rs 6.99 Lakh to Rs 10 Lakh (ex-showroom).

Given the minor facelift, the prices of the crossover might not be much increased. However, the details of the features are not confirmed yet. Hyundai i20 Active competes with Honda WR-V, Volkswagen Polo Cross, Toyota Etios Cross and the newly launched Ford Freestyle.

Recently, Hyundai launched the i20 Facelift, which received some minor cosmetic changes. It gets a new grille and slightly updated tail lamp and headlamp. The bumpers have been updated too but the overall changes remain very subtle.
