Just a few days back, the Hyundai Grand i10 had made it to the top 10 selling cars for the month of November 2013. Now the company looks very keen to ride on its success. This is the reason why it is developing the new Hyundai Grand i10 compact sedan. We’ve got the first glimpse of the car when it was caught recently as it ran through tests on the Chennai-Vellore highway near Hyundai’s plant in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.
The Hyundai Grand i10 compact sedan is an extended version of the current Grand i10 hatchback. The sub 4-meter long car seems to be all set to sent to the factory floor for mass production. There will be very few changes to the interior as compared to its hatchback sibling. The new sedan has got the same look and feel on the outside including the rear door, till the C-pillar, after which you see a well integrated new boot.
For engine options, the new car will have the same 1.2-litre Kappa2 petrol engine as used in the Grand i10 hatchback. However, there will surely be a few changes to be able to run it on mini-sedan. There will also be a diesel engine option for the car which is currently not available on Grand i10. This 1.4L CRDI diesel engine is the one that the sedan borrows from the bigger Hyundai i20 hatchback.
We will get the first glimpse of how the car would look when Hyundai showcases it during the 2014 Indian Auto Expo and it is expected to be officially launched later in 2014. The company hopes that it takes the same route of success as acquired by the Grand i10 hatchback. There is no formal word on what Hyundai will call the compact sedan. The company may either try to cash onto its current hatchback’s success or bring out a new brand identity with a new name. Whatever it does, it will surely give some sleepless nights to the competitors. We will keep you posted on the latest developments related to the Hyundai Grand i10 compact sedan, keep tuned in to Car Blog India.
