Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) launched the Hyundai EXTER Knight edition to commemorate the crossover’s first year in the market. The new model features a handful of extra styling elements that make the exterior as well as the interior more striking. The highlight, though, is the black theme that makes the Tata Punch-rival bolder than ever.
Commenting on the launch of Hyundai EXTER Knight, Mr. Tarun Garg, COO, HMIL, said, โWe are thrilled to introduce the Hyundai EXTER Knight, embodying the bold spirit of todayโs young Indian buyers. The Hyundai EXTER has received a positive customer response with over 93,000 units sold to date. Leveraging the popularity of Black color among SUV customers, the Hyundai EXTER Knight mirrors the changing aspirations of customers. With its youthful & premium design, the Hyundai EXTER Knight aims to entice customers to traverse the unexplored and bring forth thrilling experience to live the Hyundai SUV life. The color black often symbolizes modernity, elegance, power and sophistication, terms very commonly associated with SUVs, and we are confident that the Hyundai EXTER Knight with its striking road presence and offerings will match the aspirations of Indian customers.โ

Specifications
Nothing changes in terms of specs. However, the Knight Edition is available only with the 1.2-litre Kappa unit that offers 82 bhp and 114 Nm. Meanwhile, the regular trims can be had with the 1.2-litre Bi-Fuel CNG powertrain that delivers 68 bhp and 95 Nm of torque. The petrol mill is a smooth performer that offers adequately strong performance. In fact, its 4-cylinder layout gives it a clear advantage over the 3-cyl mill-equipped Tata Punch. Even the AMT is more responsive than what you get on the arch-rival.
Our view- So far, the Hyundai Exter has been a compelling option in the sub-4-metre crossover segment. As experienced by me during the national media drive, the Exter offers all the virtues of the Grand i10 Nios, whilst even providing some SUV-specific traits like a high ground clearance and large DLO. Moreover, the comprehensive safety suite available on all the trims makes it among the safer options. While it’s still not as popular as the Maruti Fronx and the Tata Punch, the Knight Edition just might help it with some more sales.
