If you think the small SUV space has been dull off late then don’t worry, as the launch of the Hyundai Creta is right around the corner and this car is expected to shake things up majorly. Targeted primarily at the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the Ford EcoSport, the small SUV from Hyundai will also have to contend with the best-selling SUV, the Mahindra Scorpio and the soon-to-be-launched crossover Maruti S-Cross. Hyundai is not only aiming to get ahead on the Creta vs Duster vs EcoSport rivalry but also aims to snatch the title of the best selling SUV in India from the Mahindra Scorpio. Hyundai Creta vs Renault Duster vs Ford EcoSport
Although the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster are not compact SUVs like the Ford EcoSport, the price overlap means that will they end up competing with each other. Looks are obviously a subjective matter and preferences in this department depend on personal taste. Having said that, most people would agree with us when we say the Hyundai Creta is indeed a very good looking car. Hyundai is constantly churning out segment leaders in terms of looks. The interiors feel much more premium than the Renault Duster’s and come packed with features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with GPS Navigation, 6 airbags, engine start/stop button, steering mounted audio and Bluetooth controls etc.

Although the Duster comes with most of these features as well, it does not feel as premium as the Creta. Both cars have identical interior space which much more than Ford’s EcoSport. Hyundai is also providing a powerful range of engines along with manual and automatic transmission options. The Duster does not get an automatic transmission, but it does come with AWD. The EcoSport gets a dual clutch autobox but only on the 1.5 litre petrol version making the Hyundai Creta the only diesel automatic in its segment.

Hyundai Creta vs Mahindra Scorpio
The Creta and Scorpio might be two very different products in terms of platform, space, off-road credentials, etc. but ever since Hyundai announced a sales target of 5,000 units monthly, the Creta has been pushed into the ring to take on the top selling Mahindra Scorpio. Plus with around INR 10 lakhs to spend most customers will consider both these SUVs before taking a final decision. When compared with each other, both vehicles come loaded with features, are similarly powered and will come with automatic diesel options once the Scorpio automatic is launched. However, the Mahindra gets an additional row of seats and 4WD, which the Creta doesn’t. But the Creta is more refined and its driving dynamics are more sorted as well. Plus, it will be slightly cheaper than the Scorpio when you compare the top spec trims. Basically, the Mahindra Scorpio is a proper SUV while the Hyundai Creta is a crossover.

Hyundai Creta vs Maruti S-Cross
The Hyundai Creta and Maruti S-Cross are quite different from each other, and yet the same. Different in terms of appearance; the Creta goes for a proper SUV look, almost like a miniaturised Santa Fe, while the S-Cross looks like a large hatchback that has been given the crossover treatment. At the end of the day, they are both crossovers and direct rivals. Spacious than most large hatchbacks, equipped with 1.6 litre diesel engines, these two might be more comfortable in the urban environment, but they will not mind a spot of off-road fun either. If buyers give preference to the Hyundai Creta it will be based mostly on their appearances and not anything else as both these crossovers a feature rich, spacious, get powerful engines and will be similarly prices as well. The Hyundai Creta hold a slight edge in terms of the specifications as well since it comes equipped with an automatic transmission option as well.
