Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the Indian subsidiary of the popular Korean car maker, has increased the prices of its popular small SUV, the Creta. This price increase comes at the back of the recent increase in GST. This price rise has led to an increase of Rs 20,900 to Rs 55,375. The Hyundai Creta isn’t the only Hyundai model in India to witness an increase in the price. Even the new generation Verna, the Elantra, the Tucson, and the automatic variant of the Elite i20 have been affected due to the increase in GST. Basically, these Hyundai cars have become pricier by 2 to 5 per cent due to the recent change in GST. In this post, however, we will talk specifically about the Hyundai Creta price after GST increase.

it’s worth mentioning here that the revision in total tax incidence on cars, which includes GST and cess, has been increased to counter the significant drop in the Government’s revenue after the introduction of GST. Under the revised GST slab, additional cess one mid-size vehicles has been increase by 2 percent (to a total of 17 percent). Cess on large vehicles has been increase by 5 percent (to a total of 20 percent). On SUVs, the cess has been raised by 7 percent (to a total of 22 percent). As per the earlier rates, SUVs and large vehicles attracted a cess of 15 percent over the flat rate of 28 percent. Hence, the total tax incidence on mid-size cars stands at 45 percent. On large cars and SUVs, it’s now pegged at 8 percent and 50 percent respectively. Small cars and hybrids don’t see any change.

Commenting on the fluctuation in GST rates, Hyundai Motor India Ltd said,”Implementation of GST was to create single unified large market with simplified tax structure for auto industry. However the recent rolling back to multiple rates with Pre GST classification has come as a set back to industry shaking the confidence of Auto manufacturers. We expect the coming festive season will witness low customer sentiment on new purchase decision. Further in the absence of consistent and long term policy the investment for new products and new technology will be adversely impacted.” Looking at the Hyundai Creta price after GST increase, we express full agreement with HMIL’s above statement.
