The Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai, Tarun Garg, brings home a swanky and opulent Genesis G80. Note that Genesis is the luxury sub-brand of Hyundai Motor Company. It is not officially available in India. Still, Mr Tarun Garg is able to source the luxury sedan from abroad. This is the first luxury car in the garage of the Hyundai COO. He has been at Hyundai since 2019. Initially, he was the Director of Sales, Marketing and Service in 2019. But he was given the added designation of the COO in January 2023. Prior to working at Hyundai, Mr Tarun Garg was at Maruti Suzuki for over 25 years.
Hyundai COO Tarun Garg Buys Genesis G80
This image is doing rounds on the internet. It showcases the Hyundai COO taking the delivery of the ostentatious Genesis G80. It represents the epitome of luxury from the Korean carmaker. In fact, it even rivals the legacy luxury car brands in the West. Genesis is not operational in India. But it is possible to import it, which is what Mr Tarun Garg also did. Remember, Hyundai first showcased the Genesis G80 in India at the time of the inauguration of the state-of-the-art headquarters in Gurugram in 2021. At the time, it was accompanied by the Ioniq 5. Apart from that, we spotted the Genesis G90 during the G20 Summit a few months ago in India for the foreign delegates.
Specs
In the international markets, the Genesis G80 is available with multiple powertrain options. We are not sure which one Mr Tarun Garg opted for. In the most powerful version, the luxury sedan comes with a colossal 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine which is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. It comes with an electronically controlled suspension with road preview settings. The prime focus is on the utmost comfort of the passengers. On the inside, there are tons of opulent materials and the latest tech, connectivity and convenience amenities to pamper the customers. In the USA, this model has a starting price of $65,000 (approx Rs 54 lakh INR). But importing it would be costly.

It is not common for us to experience such vehicles in our road conditions. That is what makes this vehicle so special. It evokes a sense of wonder and excitement. Furthermore, it is great to see someone so prominent opting for a completely new vehicle. Hence, the occasion gets even more special. While we don’t see Hyundai launching its Genesis sub-brand in our market, this could be a great one-off vehicle plying on the Indian roads.
