The Compact SUV segment is the one which is heating up globally and every company wants to be a part of it. The segment in India is growing faster than the entry level segment courtesy the tax benefit that is offered on sub 4 metre cars and the SUV functionality that is offered in the size of a hatchback. Hyundai is one of the biggest car manufacturers globally so how could it stay out of the league of sub 4 metre SUVs. The new Hyundai compact SUV has been caught on camera being tested in Korea.

According to a report by MotorBeam.com, the ix25 compact SUv from Hyundai could be headed our way sometime in 2015. The model showcased in April is more than 4-metres long but Hyundai India will resize this to meet Indian excise duty norms. Engine options for India could include a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel engine. Knowing Hyundai, the compact SUV will be priced aggressively and may give the likes of the Ford EcoSport nightmares.

Hyundai wants to get the market share that it’s cars are losing to the Ford EcoSport, the compact SUV segment will see more drama later in 2014 when Honda, Maruti, Mahindra, Nissan/Renault join the fray with their respective offerings. Hyundai is rigorously testing it’s new compact SUV and more spy shots of the same have been leaked, this time of the interiors. Though you cannot make out much if you look at the shots of the front cabin, the shot of the rear cabin indicate that it will feature decent legroom and a rear A/C vent. The same feature on the Grand i10 is one of the things that made it a hot seller and Hyundai hopes that this and many other features will make it a hit when it is launched later in 2014 or early 2015.
You can check out the exterior spy shots below.

Hyundai’s C-SUV shares a lot of resemblance to the Kia Provo which is an offering from its sister brand Kia. The car is expected to borrow a lot of design cues from the Kia offering. The low roofline of the car hints towards that and the C-pillar looks similar too. Up front the car will get the fluidic design philosophy which has now become a characteristic of Hyundai cars. It will also borrow some design cues from the Santa Fe’s fluidic variant.
There is no word on the street about what could be motoring the car but it will feature both both diesel and petrol motors. The turbocharged 1.0 litre petrol motor that was showcased by Hyundai last year could join in to give some competition to the EcoSport’s Ecoboost engine. It might complemented by a 1.2 litre petrol motor that is currently available on the Hyundai i20, tuned differently though, and the 1.4 litre diesel motor which is also available on the i20.
The car is expected to go on sale in India by 2015 and it will be joined in by its compact sedan sibling as well. Hyundai has its offerings in all the segments barring the compact SUV segment, but the new offering could make things though for the other compact SUVs currently being offered or those which might be launched soon. So what do you think about the car?
