The Hyundai Carlino concept based sub-compact SUV which is set to rival the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza will launch in India next year.
Hyundai is currently working on an all-new sub-compact SUV for the Indian market. This new vehicle is based on the Carlino concept which you all will remember from back in 2016 when it made its debut in India at the Auto Expo. Measuring under 4-meters, the Carlino based vehicle will naturally stand at a direct competitor of the current segment leader Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
Recently, for the first time, a series of spy shots of the Hyundai Carlino (Read More) based SUV were leaked online. This hints that the said vehicle is currently in the final stages of development. Recent media speculations suggest that Hyundai will launch this vehicle in India during the first half of 2019.

In addition to this, there have been rumours which suggest that Hyundai might rename this new sub-compact SUV as the Styx. So far codenamed as the Qxi, the Styx is going to use the same platform as that of the current generation Elite i20.
Going by the spy shots, one can clearly make out that the side profile of the Hyundai Carlino based vehicle resembles quite a lot to the Hyundai Creta. It has the same stance and character lines as that of its bigger brother. Even the front and the back fascia of this sub-compact SUV has some aesthetic elements similar to that of the Creta.

So far, we do not have any concrete information regarding the interiors of the Hyundai Carlino. However, in true Hyundai fashion, we have every reason to believe that they are going to offer good quality materials. And by the looks of it, the cabin will offer decent leg and shoulder room as well.
In terms of features, owing to the recent trend and the equipment list of the competition, the Hyundai Styx will also have an impressive feature list. Hence, a kit like a touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, electric sunroof and LED DRLs can be expected.

Right from the base variant onwards, the Hyundai Carlino will have dual airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard. Higher variants can even offer up to 6-airbags.
So far, we do not have any concrete information regarding the power units of the Hyundai Carlino. However, there are speculations that which suggest that this utility vehicle will have a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine. The diesel engine is going to be the same 1.4-litre oil-burner that we get on Elite i20.
Furthermore, the transmission responsibilities will be handled by a 5-speed manual in the petrol and the 6-speed manual in the diesel derivatives. The Hyundai Carlino is going to get an AMT gearbox, in both petrol as well as diesel derivative.

Competing in the sub-compact SUV segment, the prices of the Hyundai Carlino based compact SUV is likely to fall in the range of INR 7.5 lakhs to INR 10.5 lakhs. Naturally, the competition will include Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Honda WR-V and the Ford EcoSport.
