Hyundai Kona – the first electric SUV from the company pack loads of features and is expected to get a driving range of 300km on a single charge.
Hyundai India is all set to welcome its first electric vehicle named Kona on July 9, 2019. It will be India’s first electric-powered SUV and Hyundai plans to bring only 1000 units of the SUV to India.
The exteriors feature a new grille which supports charging socket, split headlight design restyled front bumpers and the rear bumpers will be deprived of the exhaust systems. The electric SUV will sit on 17-inch alloy wheels.
Talking about the engine specifications, Hyundai Kona is available in two variants globally which offer varied power range and the driving range. The smaller 39.2kWh battery makes 133bhp of power and it gets a driving range of 300kms. The electric SUV can do 0 – 100km/h in just 9.3 seconds.

The other engine houses a bigger battery and offers a longer driving range. The 64kWh battery generates a maximum power of 201 bhp and 0 – 100 km/h comes in just 7.5 seconds. It gets a driving range of 470kms. Torque figures come are nearly the same in both motors being to 395Nm.
The smaller battery which is the 39.2kWh takes about 6 hours to restore its lost juice completely while the 64kWh battery takes about 9 hours to charge completely. Hyundai Kona also gets a 100kW DC charger which supports fast charging and in about 54 minutes the electric SUV can be 80% charged.
The interiors of the car are tech-friendly and are loaded with features, globally. Hyundai Kona EV comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system which supports Apple CarPlay with Android Auto. The car also features real-time traffic, satellite navigation, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, live services among others.
It also gets an 8-speaker KRELL audio system with a subwoofer. The above features are available internally and the Indian version of the Kona is expected to see some deletions. Like the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system may be replaced by a 7-inch unit.

It is expected that Hyundai Kona will be launched in the least powerful battery, 39.2kWh which is idle for Indian conditions. The top speed for the same is 150Km/h. The electric SUV will be launching on 9th July 2019 and is expected to sit at a price range of Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The car will be brought through CKD route and will be locally assembled in Chennai, India.
